Saw a message in game that one of the golden wrenches was destroyed. (#9?) Anyone else see that?

Just before the Engie update came out, you could randomly get a golden wrench when attempting any normal crafting. However, it was hard-coded that only 100 of the things were released total. Forever. There will never be another one gotten by anyone. So, of course, one of them being destroyed is a big deal.

In fact, a group of people got together and did a fundraiser for something soon after the update with the draw being just that, destroying the wrenches (was along the same vein as the polar bear plunge things different organizations will do). It was actually featured on the official blog, in fact.

There's been somewhere between 1.5 to 2 dozen of the wrenches destroyed thus far, if memory serves. You can find the complete list somewhere on the TF2 website.

Saw the message that it was destroyed by Calisse, or something like that, and looks like the item disappeared in the last couple days. I was playing on a Warpath server, so don't know if it was a community wide or map specific message.

Golden wrench was/is simply.. a golden wrench. Only 100 player had those. Around 40-60 were destroyed for charity and as we see now there was another one destroyed.. Anyways when you kill someone with it it will turn into gold. You could get it before but not anymore

See if i had a golden wrench i wouldn't delete it, I played with some of the guys who had them, and they said most of the profits that were made during that delete the golden wrench thing only went to nintendo or something, I'd keep it and just make everyone hate me.

This one wasn't deleted for charity... it was just deleted.

The failure announcement still went out over the game, though.
