Reply quick !

if the dell has an 8,000,000: contrast Ratio....you might wanna get it ha ha. The refresh rate of the samsung is 2ms and the Dell is 5ms. The samsung refreshes faster but the human eye cant see past 4 ms refresh rate. In the end its your call. Not a bad deal id say. Plus the Dell has an LED display. It was last you forever. I dislike Dell because of there high prices for a name, but you cant argue, thats a good deal.

Edit: The samsung is also a referb. It has been fixed because it has been broken. The Dell is new.

contrast ratio measurements are such bullcrap.

Ofc if you measure the screen while it is off, it will be 8mil :1...... durrrrr

Im not going off Dynamic Contrast ratio, cut the contrast in half...it will still blow that samsung out of the water. Im trying to help him and explain the points he wants to look at. Contrast does make a difference regardless. If you have an LED for $180, you should probably grab it. The Viewsonic isnt very bad, but it doesn't have HDMI to hook a game system up to easily. The Dell is also 2 inches bigger. The refresh rate is the same however.

It's better because Samsung manufactures the best LED screens. Panasonic would be another top pick, but they don't make monitors and LG would be closely behind them.

so in the end i think im going to go with that Dell, it has HDMI, i could easily hook up my ps3 to it too. (or so Dell says)

The Samsung has HDMI too.

It seems like a sweet deal, but honestly it was overpriced to begin with, and still is compared to other things you can get.

wait why is the dell overpriced but not the samsung

Google "Who makes the best led tv's" (or monitors) and probably every single website will explain why Samsung is the best right now.

You can purchase the Dell one, and it will no doubt be a great monitor. But, in 2 months you don't want to look back and be like "Man, I could have gotten better". I couldn't tell you how many times that has happened to me.

Edit: And it's overpriced, much like the reason why their pre-built Alienware's are overpriced. It's the way they market to make money.

I'm sick and tired of people spreading misinformation about what the human eye can see. Everyone says something different, too.

1) Dynamic Contrast Ratios are complete jokes. Only compare those when you're comparing the same brand. The actual Contrast Ratio is usually 800:1 or 1000:1 on most typical TN panels.

2) You can't see the difference between 2ms and 5ms. You can't start to notice any input lag until (typically) 80ms. That number isn't the same for everyone.

3) LED backlighting is nice and usually increases the contrast ratio (to 1000:1. Again, Dynamic means nothing.) Dell isn't overpriced, in fact they're usually the cheapest. If you're referring to their UltraSharp series, all IPS panels are expensive to manufacture.

4) Refurb doesn't mean it was broken, and then fixed. Not usually. It could be a 'Frankenstein', in that it uses the working parts of previously broken hardware.

Sorry if this post seems to be offensive towards you, but people in general really need to stop spreading misinformation.

If you want my honest opinion, don't stray away from ViewSonic for monitors. They've been making monitors for years. In fact, I still have a old 17" CRT from them that still works perfectly. It's about 13-14 years old since my dad bought it around the time Windows 98 came out.

*edit: Here's a good 21.5" one from them for $160: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116446
