So I have a handful of dumb (gameplay) questions

Hey folks,
So I'm starting to get up there in rank and it turns out two weeks into starting up BC2, I've just hit Rank 15 and unlocked all recon and engineer progressive unlocks. Unfortunately, I have a few questions about some pretty obvious stuff. lol

1. Magnum Ammo: So I've been using the M95 with Magnum ammo and I've been having fun one-shotting everything -- so far it seems like nothing survives even if I just nail them in the stomach or legs (LAWL, AWP'd). My question is stupid, but simple: do I need Magnum ammo with the fifty-cal or should I go for a different loadout?

2. Bullet Penetration: How far in does it go? Does it depend on the weapon? I've noticed I can blast people through thin walls like huts and gates and all that but I'm wondering if I can shoot people through, say... a tree, or punch rounds through a thick stone or metal wall?

3. Mortar Strikes: If I target and call in a mortar strike on a moving vehicle while it stands still, do the mortars follow the vehicle if it moves out of the firing range? Or does it just hit where the vehicle WAS?

4. Rex or 1911: I know this is kind of a circumstantial question, but yeah. I'm a pretty good crackshot, so I've been loving the Rex ever since I unlocked it, but is the 1911 really that much better that it warrants all the raving I've been hearing about it?

5. Jumping, crouching, and accuracy improvements and debilitation: okay, I've seen a lot of people do single jumps and still blast people. So how badly does jumping and moving affect accuracy? Does crouching improve accuracy much, if at all?

Thanks in advance guys! I'm really trying to get better at this game, and this should help. :>

Opinion based: I cannot tell you how to play the game

1. Magnum ammo on all sniper rifles. They nerfed the m95 in hardcore unless you have magnum on, but you can use whatever with other snipers in hardcore :)...

But keep in mind that magnum ammo will make your bullets go more straight

2. I dont think it lowers the damage if you shoot through the metal shed or the small wooden fences

3. Once the mortar strike is launched, it will stay in one place

4. m1911, faster shooting and nearly the same damage. with the rex you have to wait for the next bullet to be ready in the thingy

5. No idea

PS: There is no stupid questions, only stupid answers

I use Magnum ammo with every single kit. It allows all of the bolt-action sniper rifles to be a one-hit kill and helps you run into a group of enemies and mow down several with no issue. The M95 will not be a one shot kill without Magnum (maybe at very close range).

2. Bullet Penetration: How far in does it go? Does it depend on the weapon? I've noticed I can blast people through thin walls like huts and gates and all that but I'm wondering if I can shoot people through, say... a tree, or punch rounds through a thick stone or metal wall?
Trees are impenetrable, but most will fall after taking explosive damage or a couple sniper shots. Metal walls (like the six-foot metal fences or metal-clad buildings) are penetrable. Stone/Concrete walls however are impenetrable, but can be destroyed by repeated shots/explosives (you will chip away at the wall and chunks will come off).

3. Mortar Strikes: If I target and call in a mortar strike on a moving vehicle while it stands still, do the mortars follow the vehicle if it moves out of the firing range? Or does it just hit where the vehicle WAS?
It hits where it was. There is no tracking on a mortar strike so you have to plan ahead (and hope they don't move!).

4. Rex or 1911: I know this is kind of a circumstantial question, but yeah. I'm a pretty good crackshot, so I've been loving the Rex ever since I unlocked it, but is the 1911 really that much better that it warrants all the raving I've been hearing about it?
A few words about the M1911. My first platinum (out of all guns), fast reload/firing, nearly as much stopping power as the Rex. Besides, it has nostalgia that a modern Russian revolver can't possibly compete with.

5. Jumping, crouching, and accuracy improvements and debilitation: okay, I've seen a lot of people do single jumps and still blast people. So how badly does jumping and moving affect accuracy? Does crouching improve accuracy much, if at all?
Jumping increases spread, but depending on the weapon it might not effect it much. An automatic gun definitely suffers when you move around (in any direction) while semi-autos are harder to tell how it effects. Shotguns don't show much of a noticeable difference.

Crouching is useful for sniping as it reduces the amount of sway your gun has and increases your accuracy/reaction speed that way. As far as the gun being more accurate, I haven't seen anything or heard anything to suggest that it increases accuracy of the gun itself.

Two extra questions:

1) Bronze Star, Silver Star, Gold Star: what are the criteria for getting these?

2) Once a vehicle is tagged with a tracer, how exactly do you use a RPG/Carl G to home in? I tried shooting at the little red square box and I tried shooting randomly into the air (exaggerated). Doesn't work. :/

Thanks!

Thanks a lot guys! The answers were insightful much as I'd hope they'd be. I love the Rex but I believe I'll toss it out in favor of the 1911.

Two extra questions:

1) Bronze Star, Silver Star, Gold Star: what are the criteria for getting these?

Thanks!

I actually think I can answer this one! I believe each tier of Star (Bronze, Silver & Gold) are all achieved by getting a certain number of kills with one specific weapon. Just for example, say a B-Star is 100 kills, then an S-Star is 300, then a G-Star is 500 total kills. Each star is worth a set amount of points (500, 1000 and 5k isn't it?), but once you get the gold star, it resets your 'kill counter' back to 0 and you can achieve each tier of Star over again.

At least that's how it seems to work...

1) You get the different stars by making enough kills with whatever weapon you are using. So, for instance, the M9...to get gold you have to kill 50 people with it. There is also a platinum star. Also, pretty sure you can get the stars all over again once you've received platinum. Not completely sure on that though.

2) You have to hold it over the red square until you see distance-to-target numbers appear.

Thanks, guys!

Yeah, I think you can get multiple stars. So each weapon is different in terms of number of kills needed... alright thanks.

So after the distance to target appears, I can fire in ... that general direction... and expect it to home in?

Once it appears, you can fire in any direction you want...so completely opposite from the target works! It does help to look at where you aiming and make sure that the rocket *should* have a clear path if you fire in that direction. If want to shoot dirt though, that's fine as well...I believe I saw an eGO award called "LawnDarter"...lol.

Anyways, yeah, TLDR; once its locked, have at it.

How Stars Are Tabulated

Main Guns (MG's, Assault Rifles, Snipers, SMGs)

Bronze: 25 kills
Silver: 50 kills
Gold: 100 kills
Platinum: 1000 kills

Sidearms/Alt Weapons (Grenades, Pistols, Knives, Vehicles)

Bronze: 10 kills
Silver: 25 kills
Gold: 50 kills
Platinum: 500 kills

On each weapon, it is possible to get 1 bronze star, 1 silver star, 9 gold stars [you get one for each 50 kills (alt weapons) or 100 kills (primary weapons) up until you earn the platinum star], and then a platinum star. Once you've gotten a platinum star, further use of the weapon will not result in any more stars/extra points.

Point Values

Bronze: 500 points
Silver: 1000 points
Gold: 5000 points
Platinum: 10000 points

Also, with tracers...once a tracer has hit an enemy vehicle, you can pull out your RPG-7 or Carl Gustav, then you have to hover your crosshair over the red square that shows up around the target. It will blink for a couple seconds and when the square has become solid, you are locked on and the rocket will function with the tracer.

I only mention this because it took me a good ten minutes of playing with it until I figured it out. =P

Thanks, Slaz.

These are the things that they don't really tell you (kinda like how to fly a chopper). Why don't Steam games come with a user's manual? :(

Oh.. one more question..

If I buy Vietnam.. how does the ranking and point system work?

1) Do I get to continue building on my rank/points?
2) Do I need to unlock the Vietnam guns on top of the BC2 guns?
3) Can I even use the BC2 guns in Vietnam?

You keep the same rank as you have in BC2 and any points that you get in either game will count in the other game for your overall rank

2) Do I need to unlock the Vietnam guns on top of the BC2 guns?

I believe all vietnam guns are unlocked for you at purchase so everyone starts on an equal playing field it's just a matter of getting used to them.

3) Can I even use the BC2 guns in Vietnam?

Nope. How do you think those cloth armored helis would like taking a tracer followed by an RPG? They would cry. They weapons stay historically accurate because that is how each game is balanced.

I was shot through a tree with an M95, the tree and myself both fell at the same time. Also you can take trees down with just 1 shot from a gol or m95 if you are close and no magnum ammo is needed for that ;-)

I am pretty sure that the Vietnam guns also must be unlocked, if you have never played as recon for example but you have played as the other classes you will have to play some recon to get all their guns. Also, on Vietnam there are alot fewer weapons and so they will all be unlocked at a lower level.

I plan on buying Vietnam after I unlock all the guns in BC2.

I have one left (M95).

Getting points as a Recon is like watching paint dry.

If you want points in recon, use c4 on objectives, if you have extra explosives selected then that is 300 points also throw motion mines everywhere and you will get points for other peoples kill that happen when your mine is there. Doing it like that you will be playing more like assault or engineer also you can use c4 on vehicles and with explosive2 you only need 2 bricks to take out a tank. If you hit an APC with 4 people in it you will get 300 points also you can plant c4 on enemy choppers and wait for them to take off and BOOM! I recommend using the VSS for this play style though.

Hmm.. I've been using Mortar because it looks cool. Maybe I'll try C4.

Isn't going into enemy bases and tampering with their vehicles... frowned upon?

What do I look like, an admin?! :confused1:

It generally is. It's against our rules to spawn camp the uncap (base) in our Conquest servers. You are, however, able to go in an enemies uncap and steal vehicles.

1. Stick with Magnum ammo. M95 gets weaker and most times takes 2 shots for me (when I use it)

2. It penetrates almost all walls except for cinder block walls.

3. No. The mortar strike doesn't follow the vehicle. It stays where your targeted it to be.

4. The M1911 is definantly better than the Rex (IMO) because it has a larger clip and is overall more powerful than the Rex.

5. Yes, jumping and crouching will affect your accuracy. Jumping will make your bullets less accurate and of course, crouching will make your accuracy better.

Glad I could help. :)

Actually sabotage and theft of vehicles is 100% permitted, however killing enemies as they spawn is not okay. Technically our rules also state that you can kill enemies that are in their spawn once they've spotted you and shot at you, but I usually let them kill me if I'm sabotaging/stealing so as to ensure that they don't complain about spawn killing.
