Need help with my HD monitor & PS3!!!

I recently found out that it is possible to play console games in HD on your PC monitor if it supports it, which mine does
So instead of going out and buying a new HDTV for a $150 , i thought id save a bunch of money just buying an HDMI to DVI cable, which would allow me to connect my ps3 to my PC monitor and play in HD!

But i've had some problems with my new setup, framerate problems.

on my old, fat TV, games that were supposed to run @ 60 frames (COD) ran at 60 frames. I noticed with my new setup that when playing in 1080p I get like 10 sec long stutters where the games look like they are going @ 20 frames. I somewhat solved the problem by switching to 720p, but there is still very tiny stutters in games like COD, but in bulletstorm there is a huge difference in fps between my old tv and my monitor, ran great on old TV and on monitor it goes from a steady, fast fps to a slow, but still playable fps.

Does anyone know what the problem is or how to fix it? or is it just me being whiney?

The type of DVI my cable has is DVI-D single link
The type of DVI that my monitor has is DVI-D dual link

Please base your responses around the update as well, because most people are thinking that it is the main culprit of my problem.

I'm going to guess that your old TV was a 640x480 resolution. This means you have 307,200 pixels for your PS3 to calculate. That is really easy on the system because comparatively, it's not doing much. But on your HD monitor, the resolution is 1920x1080, which is 2,073,600 pixels for your PS3 to calculate. That is significantly more.

But, that's what the problem is. I don't really think there is a fix, as PS3s are pretty much fixed at what it is now. The most you can do is wait for updates or patches.

No, the PS3 does full 1080p. The 360 only renders 720p and upscales to 1080p.

What you might want to investigate is the connector you bought to convert HDMI to DVI.

Cheap connectors will only be DVI-A which only carry analog signal only, just fine for computers to monitors but terrible for a pure digital stream like HDMI.

Um im not sure what DVI-A is, the DVI end of the cable does not have pins in the middle of it, is that normal dvi or dvi-a? Also, the monitor i plugged it into HAD pins in the middle, could that be the problem?
also, the cable was made by auvio and is goldplated. costed me $50.

I'm not sure how to check if it's a DVI-A cable, but it's DVI-Analog.

You have a DVI Single Link cable (which is why some pins are missing), but that only determines that the cable can output up to 1920x1080. Dual link cables can output up to 2560x1600.

DVI Single Link will be OK for HDMI but Analog will lose data from an HDMI cable.

i would suggest switching the ends around & see what happens. my dad recently purchased a plasma tv & i have my ps3 hooked up to it. not sure what the difference is when it comes to an lcd monitor. i highly doubt that the ps3 was really meant for an lcd monitor.
