Sony have taken the next step against Geohot!

This is just pathetic in my opinion; A Judge has accepted Sony's request to allow them to see the IP addresses of people that visit Geohot's site AND YouTube channel. And the worst bit about this is that it's not only aimed towards Geohot! YouTube also now has to let Sony know about the people that watch ANY video showing you how to Jailbreak your PS3... This is unbelievably pathetic!

But on the bright side, EFF has tried to fight against this.

In all likelihood, Google will contest the ruling. I'm certain they understand the ramifications for handing over the IP and will fight the subpoena.
 
yehh any company that releases users IP addresses with out any form of fight usually gets some form of backlash from the community that it serves for doing so, its in their interests to be seen to fight this, even if they don't do it very hard.
 
I see no big deal, if you aren't a deplorable hacker you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah, but it's up for them to judge. Which I don't really trust. Once they rule this once, they might able to obtain ip addresses later on from other sites. Plus, letting them into google to see the youtube videos views is also weird. You just don't want companies to be able to obtain this type of power.

It isn't like they are going to go out and bring litigation against every single person who ever took a peek at his site. This was obviously specifically to narrow down the hacking teams he may be affiliated with.
 
While I'd love to see Sony do something about the Hackers on the PS3, this is not the way to do it. Attacking Geohott was also not the right thing to do.

But hopefully they're only doing this to scare everyone and nothing more.
