Mainly because I'm bored of all games besides Brink currently, but what is LoL? From the videos I've watched it looks like a rts, which I am currently in the mood to play lol. Now I just have to decide which character I feel like playing in the 3 hours I have until the download finishes. I have made my mind up on 6 different characters, so there is little chance That I won't be playing one of those :P. Either going with Mordekaiser, Pantheon, Tryndamere, Gangplank, Amumu, or Shen (In order of most interest to least)

League of Legends is what some call a MOBA: Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. It's played in a top-down format similar to RTS games, but you have only control over your champion (and his/her minion if the champion can summon one). Some commands from RTS games transfer over, such as move (right click), attack-move (A-left click), Stop (s) (this is the same as Hold (h).

What sets MOBAs apart from the RTS genre is the fact that each unit has a skill set and an inventory (similar to WC3). MOBAs involve utilizing these skills to kill your opponents, destroy their turrets, farm their minions, etc. Low level play is often determined by one dominate champion, but players need only a little experience to realize that they need to work as a team and synergize their skills to outsmart/outplay the enemy team.

TLDR: 1 unit. Skills. Destroy last building to win. It's a team game.

TBH I wouldn't recommend ANY of those for a new player lol. I don't think any of those are free this week anyway unless you feel like buying them.

Some recommendations based on what you said would be Ashe/Rammus/Jarvan/ since they're all free this week.

Ugh, should of guessed there would be things that required cash to use >_> well then I will prob use Jarvan since that was 1 of the characters I was looking at b4 I narrowed the list down, would rather use a melee dps or melee tank over anything else

Well you can buy the champs right out, or just earn the IP required to buy them. Ive been playing for a year now and have almost all of the champs. The only real bad thing about lol is the language barrier and the horrible trolls. Other than that, its a great game since its free.

No money is required for anything practical. The only things that you can only buy are purely cosmetic.

Grim the game works on the same premises of World of Tanks, but with LoL, the premium currency is used for different things. You can buy champions with the paid, or with the points you get ingame for playing games. Oh and all of those champions are fairly hard to play. I would play simpler, cheap (like the free currency ) champions like master Yi, Ashe, ryze, Annie, ext. Find me in vent if u need help

Well done. For someone new at LoL that's ok, especially as to excel with Jarvan you need to practice when the correct time to launch your shiled, or jump to your flag is.
Contrary to earlier posters, I think Mordekaiser is a very good first character to play, or even nunu. Both revolve around a strong mix of health making them relativly forgiving, as well as healthy AP damage so it's easy to get some kills. (Plus Nunu's ult is hilariouslyawsome when pulled off correctly).

Also, the character rotation will change which means you'll be able to play the other characters you're interested in playing in time, while you save up for them. So you don't need to worry about ever paying a cent for LoL.

I wouldn't recommend Morde as a first. If you don't have a good grasp on how the game works you will be killing yourself casting your spells and not know to cast them on the minion waves. His shield is a complicated mechanic for new players.

You're over-estimating the level of competiton he's going to be facing.
Shield mechanic? Stick it on something that's about to be in combat. Learn now while he's at level 1.

By shield mechanic I am talking about his passive and how it trades off with his health cost spells, not his W. It is better to learn the basics of the game like last hitting, how to lane, map objectives, map awareness, teamfights etc on a simple character and not pile on complicated mechanics. Heroes like Tristana, Singed, Annie are great for a new players because they are easy to get used to. Champions like Mordekaiser, Lee Sin, and Rumble which have strange mechanics pile on too much to learn while starting out.

Rumble's mechanic is complicated because it will eventually silence himself. Lee sin's energy is not strange, is it a replacement for mana. Rather Lee Sin's playstyle of skillshot and jump make him unforgiving for new players, which is why he's unsuitable for new players to handle.

Morde's shield mechanic means players do not have to worry about mana, allowing them to spend your gold elsewhere, making them more effective at their role.
He does not have to return to base as often, as his first items should always provide some regeneration giving him an advantage in game, many people recall as their over aggressive playstlye means they can't maintain their laning, but Morde will rarely have this problem.
He has a ranged attack which is rare for most melee characters, it is easy for him to farm minions and he has enough survivability to be more forgiving in the laning phase, while being an amazing counter to many characters, as they struggle to deal with his shield mechanic, which will be even more apparent at lower levels of play.

I have played a many RTS game before =p I should be able to figure out how to use specific abilities in certain ways rather quickly lol. Anyways, I unlocked Kayle and I don't like the play style that is required for the character ='(, prefer Jarvan lol

Nunu is quite easy to do anything with, he's more of a champion that you
don't need to put too much effort into while laning/jungling. He's probably
the best jungler to start out with.

For starting in general, any ranged character should be easy to pick up
because you don't have to deal with being harassed often and last-hitting
minions is much easier.

The big questions are:
  1. What do you want to play? carry, jungle, support or tank?
  2. Ranged or Melee?
  3. Mana or Non-Mana?
  4. Easy to play, sort of difficult, difficult, take forever to learn.

You may not have specifically asked, but here's a list of champions *I* found easy to play on my first time with them:

Ashe (Ranged, attack damage. Easy to learn, easy to be a credit to team -- you have a map-wide ultimate, a skill which provides vision to nearby areas through the fog of war, and a slow)
Malphite (Bruiser: Beefy AD. Not the strongest when his skills are down, but a credit to the team in that he has a slow and a long-range knock-up)
Rammus (Tank/initiator: Rammus packs low health, but can race around the map quickly with his Powerball (which bumps enemies). His taunt forces his target to attack you, making a powerball+taunt combo deal immense damage on unsuspecting targets (hence he is a strong ganker))
Taric (Support: Two of his abilities buff him and his teammates. One heals. One stuns an enemy target. His item builds vary greatly -- you can build for a strong heal, many more AoE buffs to your allies, or annoying DPS that can heal)

Note that while these champions were "easy" to play, they also took time to master.
