Off the wall question, but it's now summer break for us and i'm planning to fill out apps for jobs. My question is, is it hard to work a cash register? I get nervous and don't people getting angry if i take so long. So do places like walmart, mcdonalds train you or just stick you out there?

I'm pretty sure they will tell you how to press buttons like a baller.

I work at McDonalds, it's fine. You just need to come to terms that you are trying you're best. I was nervous for a bit, but got over it. Oh and they definitely train you well.

I am starting as a sales rep this summer. I will have to use a cash register and am also nervous. I think you will be fine. No one, at least no reputable places will put you on the spot without teaching you how to do your job. That would only
1. Chase their employees away
2. Mess with their success.

Hope this helped

If you just happen to press the purple button, the red button and the blue button at the same time; you may want to see if the display is counting down from 100. This would be a good time to ask the patrons to leave their carts where they are and to walk quietly and calmly to the exit. Remember women and children firs...

1) Everyone's nervous the first time they use a cash register.
2) Everyone will have that moment of panic when they hit something wrong the first time.
3) You will definitely panic when you have a customer waiting, and you need to change the roll of tape (receipt paper) the very first time.
4) With practice, it'll become second nature.
5) People will get mad at you for taking so long, but there are others who'll be very patience and considerate when you inform them it's your first day on the job (or that you're still new).
6) Use one machine, you used them all. Most registers are very similar, with the only difference being the physical design, and whether or not a credit card machine is built into it. Most stores now have a card reader for you to swipe it yourself, but there are still some places with machines that require the cashier to swipe the card themselves.

McDonalds, go work for Burger King!

No, because McDonalds has beast tea for only $1! :D

Tmk, they train you at any job with a cash register, seeing that places using cash registers can vary in techniques. Ex: Some Wal-Marts have bag people, some don't.

I work at K-mart :( and have for about 3 months, Yes at first I was nervous but that feeling goes away once you start getting to know people, and work there for a couple weeks. You will do fine, you have to do fine you are in eGO and that says alot :D

Thanks for the replys, feeling less nervous now that i know i'll be trained.

They usually have someone stand over you for a while, and train you. Goodluck!

Can also add to number 3:
If you gonna change paper and the paper thingy gets stuck. Happend to me a few times due to the roll lock inside was broken.. made for a lot of angry moments.
But I worked at a post office in Norway. People seemed to generally have more patience there then other places.
