Making players switch a class

I nearly exclusively play the 24/7 Avalanche server, and today I noticed that one player was a sniper with a score of 0 kills and 19 deaths.

Obviously being a heavy handed admin discourages play, but at what point (if there is one) do we say it's time to switch classes and let someone else have a go?

Goodness know's I've had a bad run, but most of the time MG's and snipers are in demand spots, and at 0-19 as one of those classes, it doesn't seem fair to the rest of the team.

Thoughts?

you can ask if you can get that class but cannot force him/her give you that class even doing that bad!

u can allways ask if u get that class but we dont have here anykind of rule that if u are not good with some class u cant use that

As my finnish comrades already have said, all we can do is ask nicely if you could have the class. And if they won't give it up then you'll just have to tough it out and play with other classes.

To clarify, I didn't want it, my teammates did, and I thought after that long, well, yeah. I generally play random, so it's rarely an issue personally. The final tally was 1 and 29...perhaps a "strongly suggest" changing class could be in order?

You can always strongly suggest but always think about how are you going to present your suggestion so it won't be abusive or offending. And most people are reasonable and they give the class eventually but theres no need to push it too aggressively. Asking once in a polite but still strong way usually does the trick. (with my voice in-game at least lol and ppl say that I have one of the freakiest voice so I dunno if it is intimidating or what but anyways)

I did actually, it didn't do the trick and that's why I posted here. I do understand the need to be as light handed as possible. Most likely why I only tried to play on eGo servers long before I joined. Thanks for the feedback!

Restricted classes are first come first served. Skill level should NEVER enter into the equation. I would never ask some one to change classes "for the good of the team". It's a game people. The game is won by the team that communicates best and plays aggressively. The outcome rarely depends on the skill of one person with a restricted class.

That said, if someone has been using the same restricted class for an hour I might politely suggest that it would be a nice thing if other people were given a turn. Variety is the spice of life.

Everyone here has said the right thing, but I'd like to point out one exception: griefing.

I've had two or three incidents on Avalanche where players were 0-50 and 0-100 with rocket or sniper. They were either blowing themselves up to lose points and take 25 from everyone they killed later (the guy was at 125 points TOTAL when I banned him) or simply running out to get shot, in order to keep teammates from the restricted classes.

If it's a case like this, it should be very obvious that their only goal is to cause trouble, and then it may be appropriate to take admin action. But we normally never force people off a class, by any means.

If people really want the sniper they could take a page out of other player's books.. wait for them to die again and then pick the rifle up :)

Everyone has to have a chance to try... i even try sniping sometimes although i reckon you would do more damage if you could throw me at the enemy!

If I want the sniper you'll often see me sprinting half way across the map to try to pick it up before it dissapears...

If you think about it the idea that one out of every eight soldiers was a sniper, or another of those eight was a machine gunner... laughable.

If you want to show some real skill use a rifle and right click to bring up iron sights. Trust me that's how the infantry won their side of the war. The sub machine gun? I think the squad leaders had them, not the rank and file. Of course it is just a game. Have fun.

so you mean soldiers didnt run around throwing grenades at everything that moved and try jumping around dodging bullets like it was the matrix?

Pshaw! Silly of me to inject reality on entertainment. Mea culpa.
