Thank goodness the Wii U will actually support legacy controllers (including the no-nonsense classic controller).

Plays Wii disc

No Blu-Ray? mmm.....

No word on the actual GPU, just that it supports 1080p output.

Now THIS is a nintendo console

My sentiments exactly ^_^

Supporting all Wii games + all Wii controllers is a huge step towards making this a must buy for me. Wonder if it will upconvert Wii games to 1080p?

+1 Nintendo

Very smart move by Nintendo on legacy support. I thought I heard Reggie mention it. I'm more upbeat now about sales for this new console. And no Blu-Ray support was expected. Sony developed it, and it's still kind of expensive to build it into a console, especially if Nintendo is going for the low-value, high-quality approach.

Note: As I listen to the GameSpot Live Cam, the camera guy is hitting on every booth babe under the guise of "for the viewers at home!"

By the way, they are showing the console on the gamespot stream. The controller has two shoulder buttons and two trigger buttons just like the xbox controller.

I'm interested to see if it has a real online service. It doesn't matter if Ubisoft is making a "hardcore" shooter, if the console has the same online functionality of the Wii.

wow cool. but looks like they spent more time on the controller than the console!

Oh dear LORD! It DOES have Blu-Ray support (though it does say Custom Blu Ray Disc)!

Nintendo's stock just went UP! What's your opinion on that RV770 card?

New controller looks stupid. No analog sticks and as massive as it is it should have them instead of circle pads. All in all I dont think the Wii U isnt all that impressive and wont sell as much as the original Wii. Unless they give a discount for people returning their Wii's for a Wii U. I expect only the real die hard fans will see a point in going out and shelling out more cash just for HD support.

Another dissapointing note is the touch screen doesnt support multi touch...

All in all I think Nintendos press conference was disappointing and a yawn fest...

Wii U is what the Wii should have been.

It does have an analog stick, kinda. Looks like it attaches to the bottom of the screen controller, and seriously reminds me of the N64 analog controller. How useful this will be...I dunno...

Looks so low to the base that I would need my fingernail to tilt it up though.. If it is analog it doesnt leave a lot of room to tilt the sticks around since it is sitting so low.

actually the controller has 2 analog sticks at the top right and left of the controller. the stick at the bottom is their awkward shooter attachment that makes the trigger finger, the foward hand instead of the strong hand in the back grip.

I haven't touched my Wii since I finished Twilight Princess. A bit nervous to shell out a couple hundred $ for a Nintendo console again...

Those aren't analog sticks, they're circle pads.

RV770 is radeaon HD 4000 series. So one directx version (10.1) up from the 360 and ps3. So I am curious on how they use that power. Though multiple screens may have an impact on the full experience as far as sucking some of the performance from the main job of graphical quality.

nope, they are recessed analog sticks. they have a slight curvature to the underside of the sticks meaning it rotates in multiple axises plus when nintendo went over the controller, they labeled them as control 'sticks' not pads like on the psp which is a circle pad

They have the same thing on the 3ds, it feels nothing like an analog stick.

I still dont see the point of this controller other than it turns your TV and Wii U into a giant DS. Is there a real need for this giant thing or just trying to make it more appelaing for people to buy?

From what I heard the thing is very light but it doesnt matter how light it is if its like holding a steering wheel and trying to pay attention to two screens which can easily get you killed. Not to mention if im moving it around all the time it will be hard to try to watch both screens.

I think the console will do goo but not great and the new controlle will bomb.
