What happened to promotions?

I haven't been very engaged with the forums since promotions stopped happening; I was just wondering why no admins are being appointed anymore? I'm just curious because it was something I once aspired towards and I haven't seen a promotions update since January 2010. I'm nearly a 3 year old active member on the Charlie Strand and Avalanche servers with a loyal and respectable history; are leaders still actively looking for leaders?

Admins are appointed as needed.

If there are no promotions, that means our current admin team is doing well!!!
That sir is a compliment!
Dont be surprised if there are promos and then none for a while then more.

Just stay active and engaged in the servers and on the forums.

To expand on what Boe said, I don't think promotions have "stopped happening", but just to be sure I did a quick forum search for DoD:S promos since 1/1/10 and found these, in chronological order (note that I might have missed some) --

DoD:S Promotions
Valentine's Day Promotions (2/13/10)
March 2010 Promotionss
May 2010 Promotions
eGO 4th Anniversary Promotions (7/5/10)
November 2010 Promotions
Christmas/New Year Promotions (12/25/10)
April 2011 Field Promotions

DoD:S Awards
September 2010 Awards
February 2011 Awards

If you've been active on Strand and Avalanche and are still been overlooked for promotion, other steps that can help are getting active on vent, the forums, and best of all (imo), coming regularly to our events, which leaders frequent attend. Good luck!

Promotions have always been a large part of edgegamers. Leadership is always paying attention to certain members that deserve a promotion. Personally, I've noticed there are much less "list" promotions, and more field promotions. It may appear like less admins are stepping up to the plate but I can assure you, promotions are still given out whether or not the promotion is formally announced to the community as a whole. Just be active, have fun, and get to know everyone. Despite the fact it may seem like they don't, divisional leadership does notice their members and promotions are given out under their discretion. Being an admin isn't a responsibility that's just tossed around. I can assure you, they are watching, and they do pay attention. ;)

Not to add any fuel to the fire but I was promoted twice. I joined in Septemeber 2010, was promoted within a few months then was promoted again on December 25th. Both 'list' promotions. From my memory that is at LEAST 2 promotions since January 2010 and I am sure that I can recall perhaps 2 more and countless field promotions.

They havent stopped, leadership promotes players who they feel will make an excellent admin, and only then.

People who are not active in vent and on the forums still get promoted, but are more reliant on other admins to not only notice your good work in server but also passing that information on to leadership. If however you hop in vent, are active on the forums and come to the events hosted by the division, you are much more likely to interact directly with leadership.

Also, remember that being an admin or leadership isn't really a destination. It's more about serving others within the community. The more responsibility you have within eGO and the DoD division, the less time you will have to play the game. More and more of your online time will be dedicated to making sure other members (not just yourself) are enjoying there time here.

Hope to see you in game (once you find out how much better Donner is that Charlie and Avalanche) : )

i know you have been active player on strand :) like everyone all ready said events and vent is the key ;) omg sumac donner -.- strand is best then coming anzio ;)

Most admins are are appointed in field promotions in server or in events. The DoD:S division has more eG and eGO then e. :P You just have to be active and show your admin capabilities.

The best thing to do here is spam Stormy with PMs asking/blaming him on why you're not being promoted.

Not becuse it'll help, it'll make you feel a lot better knowing you're pissing Stormy off. (Well. It'll make ME feel a lot better.)

Ah promotions. It seems like only yesterday I was a mere Pooh-Bah instead of the Slightly Exalted Pooh-Bah I am today. Who knows? Perchance one day I may become the Grand High Pooh-Bah. A little ambition can be a good thing.

Vasiili, don't be silly, listen to Sumac, not Dr. Compton:p

we give out promotions as we see fit. A good number of our promotions are also field promo's, which do not always show up on the forums. Also keep in mind that we constantly have old admins returning to duty.

As far as you are concerned, your last post in the DoDs forums was April of 2010, you have made 40 posts in over 3 years, and I do not recall seeing you in Ventrilo or events.

It is easy for someone to slip through the cracks if they do not attempt to utilize tools such as the forums and ventrilo. So try to post more often around the forums, jump on ventrilo if you have a mic, and come to the events that you are able to attend and you'll have admin in no time.

Just wanted to say thanks for the info. I've had a few questions I wasn't really comfortable asking, but was curious about, answered from this thread.

ha ha ha pure gold!! Wonder if we could slip this into the main forums page somewhere?? :)

But to add a serious 20 cents.. i'm throwing another plug for vent and forums.. as well you can have a bit of a laugh in vent. and circulate around the other maps.. there is no "process" as such to become admin, it is not a case of ticking off boxes however if you (or anyone for that matter) is not that visible it is easy remain largely un-noticed.. human nature being what it is people notice the obvious first..

Another one for people to think about... do they really want to be an admin?? Apart from the perception of status, the reality of it is you have that rank to serve. I can't speak for other games, but in DoD we have no advantages over pubs ingame.. in fact i have had nights where i have had a solid 15 minutes dealing with one problem after the other when all i wanted was to run around like crazy (like i do) and try to kill some people before they get me!! Can be frustrating :)

But for those that do decide they would like to help serve eGO by being an admin.. just help where you see things missing.. use the tools we have - vent, steam - and watch what admins do as well. Same for us as real life promotions i am sure.. you promote the person who is already doing the job!

Anyway.. long post over.. i am spent
