Thinking I may not get BF3...

I don't see the problem with this to be honest. I mean I've literally ran it through my head since I read it first on reddit and all I can come up with is that they're just trying to promote another source of digitally downloadable games other than steam, which is good for both Steam and EA in this scenario. It's good for Steam because EA's will inevitably fail with the public due to how clumsy and user-unfriendly it is compared to Steam while EA benefits from any money it makes through the system they've developed. It affects no other person aside from maybe people outside the UK/US that have to deal with outrageous pricing (Aussies, feel bad for you guys) because you can just pre-order at a local game store, which apparently is a good idea anyways.

I just fail to see why this is such a big deal and why everyone's blowing it out of proportion on the internet, assuming it's simply "because they can."

Anyone want to explain where this major problem is?

I know it's an underhanded, cheap, and for lack of a better word, prick-ish thing to do removing games already on steam from steam, but I'm focusing mostly on BF3 here. Also, I don't mean to ruffle anyone's angry feathers with this post, I'm genuinely curious as to why this is so terrible.

I think it a lot of it has to do with the fact that the Origins platform is not anywhere near the quality (or collectiveness) of Steam. Couple this with not wanting to have to run multiple platforms just to access manufacturer's games isn't really all that desirable, then tack on the idea of "being unable to access games you paid for a year after purchase".

I think that last addendum is why people aren't a huge fan of the idea for the mostpart.

I don't understand why people are making such a big fuss about this.

If it was about something becoming console exclusive (having to invest into a specific console), yeah I could understand that. But Steam and Origins are free right?

All my games are on Steam. It's nice and simple and has all the information I need, plus a friends list to see who's on. There's no point to creating an additional system that does the same exact thing, but now less convenient and only has EA games.

I'd like to see this artwork on public television.

So EA had always been living under the missus' roof and now must set out to compensate for his inferiority all this time.

EA: "Child, feel free to come live with daddy anytime you want."

Yet we dunno if daddy's new home will be any good yet and ur only limited to that certain mattress, TV set, or toothbrush, regardless if it suits u or not. I mean, having both parents being very welcoming in a divorce situation is prolly the best scenario the child can wish for.

Oh WutTheHell am i saying, release BF3 on Steam EA gawdangit.!!!

Yeah, I'm not saying it's a good situation ... but if that's the way EA's gunna go I think my love of battlefield will win out over any boycott of EA's new fangled steam clone.

Same, I never said i was gonna boycott. Nothing is gonna stop me from getting this game.

I don't particularly have a problem with Origin, because I buy retail boxes. But why on Earth does Origin literally take like five minutes to open?

Just like every game you can DL from sources it can run in the background. What I already like about origin, is that I dont have to have it with a UI in the game, so I can fire it up from Desktop and play it , just like a retail copy!! Really.. So to be honest, if its a matter of the initial DL or purchase to open the client, then so what.. Its no different then steam and will likly be less hassle for patches like steam is.

Set it to turn on when windows starts up, that the standard setup for steam. Mine on a decent rig takes a couple seconds to load up..

Also when both on the basic home store page, Origin takes less resources.... lol

Although it consumes less resources, it doesn't include an in-game UI. Someone earlier stated this is a great thing. However, everyone doesn't own a mic. And some people are going to want to talk or organize things with other folks while trying to play/practice. Regardless of how efficient it may be to run simultaneously, you lose that efficiency having to ALT+TAB to use steamchat when people hit you up to game with you. Moving on, I've become a HUGE fan of the in-game F12 screenshot that steam recently added. With Origin+BF3, i'll need to run another third party program(FRAPS) to either record or snapshot my gameplay.

It's total BS. I wish there was a way to launch BF3 without Origin running concurrently. Minimal system load or not, I despise EA's decision to force Origin down our throats. They need to realize that they'll get their money. Just because steam is the medium for 90% of PC gaming to date, doesn't mean they're racking in all of the profits for these games.

I can't wait to play BF3. I however am not mutually anxious to add on another background launcher or client. Way to go EA. I'm looking past my growing hate for new gaming clients just to play BF3. I'm sure most people won't be so forgiving, though... XBOX is looking better and better by the day

Above and beyond everything typed above, it better support Eyefinity or i'm not buying it. That's non-negotiable.

The list goes on...

woah woah woah console version of BF3? thats crazy talk! that is completely counter intuitive of BF3's advantages

I have more IRL friends who play on the 360 than PC. I also hate Origin, and will avoid it where possible.

have you actually tried installing it yet? because they have ingame hotkeys for what I can assume is a UI, and there is chat's and messaging and friends lists. Its also in Beta... lmao

If anything, I really like that my retail boxes of BC2 and MoH are also now digital versions in Origin. I have a digital and hard copy. Yay.

It bugs me when Steam wont let me redeem a box. I don't want to only have a digital version. I like staring at my library of games in the office when I'm in between thoughts.
