Yes, Fallen Earth and its creative team have been acquired by Reloaded Productions of GamersFirst of K2 Network, now somewhat famous for launching the open beta of APB: Reloaded. (Side note: perhaps too many subcompanies in K2.)

This means that Fallen Earth will be going free to play!

A leading publisher of Free2Play? massively multiplayer online games, GamersFirst (www.gamersfirst.com) announced today the acquisition of the highly acclaimed post-apocalyptic third-person action MMO Fallen Earth from Fallen Earth, LLC. The current 12-person creative team behind Fallen Earth, headed by Lead Game Designer Marie “Aro Sei” Croall, will join GamersFirst’s development studio Reloaded Productions to lead the transition of Fallen Earth to a hybrid Free2Play game with an ongoing membership system.

Going forward GamersFirst will provide all publishing services, backend development and technical operations while Croall’s team will continue their work on the upcoming Alpha County expansion.
...estimated five month transition period...
...projected for Q4 of this year...

I'm excited. I played the trial a long time ago, and I thought it was pretty good, but I didn't (and still don't) have quite enough money to subscribe.
My only wonders are if it will still be available on Steam, and if it's going to be subtitled Reloaded, seeing as it's been acquired by Reloaded Productions.

Tip for the graphics issue where everything looks extremely horrible, if it has not been fixed/is not fixed by the time it goes F2P: lower your render distances! They are far too high for what you need! When you lower the render distance, raising the graphics quality is not a problem, and your fps will probably even increase.

And I just realized that it seems like all my favorite MMOs are getting Free to Play remakes. Actually, that's an exaggeration, seeing as EVE Online and WoW definitely aren't going free to play any time soon.
I mean, first, Hellgate: Resurrection was announced way back when(I loved Hellgate: London), then LotRO turned out to be like WoW but free and with LotR in it (didn't try it until free to play was in closed beta), then APB was shutdown and it became APB: Reloaded after a few months (was really looking forward to that game even before release), and now Fallen Earth is becoming free to play (trial was enjoyable, and I didn't even get a vehicle yet[yes, I had a horse...not a vehicle])

It's great to see that someone saved FallenEarth, especially G1 and Reloaded. I think they've done a phenomenal job with APB (only game I'm playing right now).

I didn't really find anything super awesome about Fallen Earth tho. I beta tested it, and thought it was neat, but hideous to look at....

Hideous to the point of unplayable. Render distance thing I mentioned in OP actually helped with that.

I really enjoyed Fallen Earth. Actually hosted the only official unofficial Fallen Earth podcast for 60 something shows (LifeNet Fallen Earth Podcast = shameless plug). Such a great dev team investing a lot of passion and sweat into that game.

The graphics certainly were rough, but they did an overhaul shortly after release so it has gotten much better - though the color palette still leaves something to be desired.

The press release they sent out said team will remain in tact and G1 will be providing additional resources to support the current team if needed. Which is great news! So glad to hear that the current team would remain in tact and have the majority of creative control. I think this could really be a great move for this game. Glad to see someone (G1) investing into these smaller MMO's like APB and FE and turning them around.

played it back in beta with some guild members from star wars galaxies. Was fairly entertaining, but definitely wasn't worth a monthly subscription in my opinion. May have to give it another go now that its becoming f2p.
