Though I may not be a part of this division, I just want to speak my mind.

As we all know recently, Team Fortress 2 in now free to play forever for reasons I don't know why. If you don't believe me, here is the link to the page and if you want, you can download it.

I think most of us here who are members before the game became free bought it for $20. But don't you think it's a little unfair that we have to spend money to get the game? Don't you think it's a little unfair that new members or maybe the people who hadn't bought the game yet will acquire the game for free?

I'm not saying that this is a good or a bad thing. I am just saying that I feel ripped of my money and so did other members of this clan. I just want to speak my mind.

What to expect in the next coming days:
-Expect a sudden growth of division members.
-Expect the servers to be more full than usual.
- Expect more hackers to go into the servers.

What I think eGO should do:
-TF2 division will NEED more admins to stay alert and be in servers 24/7
-TF2 division will NEED more room servers if ever TF2 player population will increase
-eGO might have to put more attention to the TF2 division because of this.

Thanks for reading and I hope TF2 players will enjoy more in the coming days. :)

I believe valve will set up an ip tracking system in order to prevent petty hackers repeatedly signing up new accounts, they have hinted at a new anti-cheat system for this game and I think that it will appear in the next few days.

Although I'm technically not in this division anymore, I started here back in '09, and have been playing TF2 since the Orange Box release. For the price I paid for the game, Valve has put an extreme amount of time and hard work into keeping it always updated and its "DLC" free. For 4 years. That's a lot more than most games I've played can say.

Also, I have a lot of reservations about free-to-play. For one, the hacker problem will probably escalate to the point where TF2 will most likely become a mere item on the shelf in the future. Hopefully Valve will create an airtight system to prevent this, but I doubt it. Also, eGO has done a good job in the past with keeping the servers relatively punk-free.

The other reservation I have about F2P is the type of "gamers" it brings into the equation. Most people who wouldn't plop down $5 for a game will now take part in it. I'm not totally sure I have the demographics correct, but in my mind this conjures up images of people who have most likely never played a video game in their life, or don't have a clue as to proper etiquette and simple do's/dont's in the gaming world. I just see this ending badly. It's the same concept as things in the "real world" - if you offer a product for money, versus offering that same product for free, what kind of customers are you going to attract?

Spartacus presented a good theory about why its free:

If they are planning on a TF3, then this move could boost sales. People will start playing 2 for free, and start enjoying it, and then when 3 comes they will "have to have it"

My theory is that now because its free, people will enjoy it, and certain people who enjoy it may be willing to purchase upgrades, so that could also provide income.

IMO I don't think there will be a tf3, but with Valve you never know, just check back in 10 years.

I just think now this update is out they will focusing on ep3 (hopefully).

TF3 doesn't make any sense, at least not in the near future. They've released so much extra content, I'm not sure where they could go from here without being extremely redundant.

10 years down the road? Maybe.

I think it will take a massive jump in technology for them to release a "TF3". The TF2 I play now is not the same one I bought years ago. Present TF2 is the sequel.

Our servers are full in the best hours, and remain full for a good while with the players you already know. That's not going to change, there's not going to be a hall where all players gather first. It still going to be divided in servers, and if the mesa regulars (for exmaple) stick around in mesa, then we shall get a few noobs perhaps. If we all quit then yeah, they're going to take over.

I honestly don't see the problem yet, this is too much speculation. Give it a go, play a few days. I expect everyone that plays a few times a day to perceive no change at all.

I would assume there is reasoning behind them making TF2 F2P, Possibly adding in-game currency to purchase cool skins or further customization for characters

I've never played TF2 so this is just a shot in the dark based entirely on assumption, although I will say F2P games have been on the rise big time over the past few years and producing income by ingame stuff costing real money.

I felt that my 30$ have been well spent seeing as how I have received over 1700 hours of gameplay time. Perhaps other people who didn't play the game for more then a couple hours feel cheated out but I feel great.

1186 hours since August 2009. Bought the game for 20 bucks, and would do it again.

i agree with aqua blue and angstrom. ive played over 1000 hours since i have it and i think if i play a game that for that long and it cost 20$ i think its just fair to say the money was well spend.
i also agree with ppl saying we might have a lot to do as admins. there are prolly a lot of new ppl playing tf2 now. the problem i can see coming with this might be that the servers are filled with ppl so admins wont get in when asked to help out. but the update has just been released so i think the best to do is just wait a few days and see how things go.

edit: another thing id like to add: if all admins work together it shouldnt be too hard to keep things under control (in case things are going bad with this update). mesa usualy has lots of admins so if everyone takes something when needed we wont notice much. and im sure the same works on the other servers as well.

I definitly got my 20 bucks worth, been playin for years, f2p wont ruin the gane imo, hackers will still get caught, and ip's will be tracked so they cant just create a new account, im sure valve is one step ahead and knows how to handle this. I hope lol.
