Interesting news, apparently they're making a Mass Effect movie. It's apparently being written by the guy who wrote Thor and I Am Legend. More news will be coming out of Comic-Con. The good news is, it looks like BioWare is going to have a lot of creative control on the project.

I'm curious as to whether it will follow the plot of the games or it will be an original story. But Thor was great, so I don't have much fear that it will be below average regardless of what happens if it actually comes out.

I think they should do the story from the game, its a great story, and it'll be the best way to explain how Shepard is a complete badass.

But wont that make the film a 15-30 hour movie (minimum?) and what about all those choices? Might as well make three separate films: one for Paragon, one for Renegade, and another with Shephard just nodding his head at everyone.

if anything, it should be a side-story or a prequel.

Nah, the game is long because you spend a lot of time doing side missions, or running around places because you're lost. Obviously they're going to have Shepard be a paragon, because even though Renegade Shepard is much better, most people like a good hero. And they should have the romance be between the Asari and Shepard, because Ashley is stupid and xenophobic. But to have the straight up main mission it'd be a good 2:30-3 hour movie. And it should be directed by James Cameron. Plus, to have a good renegade movie you could set it up to where he is pissed about the Normandy being destroyed in the 2nd one, and since he isnt working for the Alliance, he does stuff his way.

I don't really care too much about this project. I think it would be a good thing for video game movies to raise the bar a little (admittedly, it isn't that high to begin with). From what I know about Mass Effect (I have only played the first game), I doubt there is all that much to be gained by doing a film offshoot.

Mass Effect is a great game, with a great story line. As long as Bioware manages to keep their word inside the film shoot it should have another great story and Im sure they can find a production company to back it up and hopefully get a good director.
