Hey all im in the process of putting together a sort of barebones kit trying to spend between 6 and 7 hundred to start off and then upgrade and add on from there over the next year or so. If anyone has any input or knows of any sites to look at i'd appreciate it. I already looked alot at newegg and tigerdirect. Also i came across some pc's that look good for what im trying to spend through cyberpower. When i researched them they got mixed reviews though. Does anyone have any experience with these guys that can fill me in on whether or not their a good company to buy from?

They charge quite a premium for putting the tower together for you. For such a low budget, you would be well advised to purchase the parts yourself and then assemble it. It is a fairly easy task, and these forums and well as others are a great source for info on the process. Phobus has a build guide on here that has some great tips and pretty much walks you through it step by step. But you will definitely get more bang for your buck DIY.

^this is the man to ask if you're looking to build a PC and also Phobus aka bassodoken.

Say waaaat.

CyberPower is a pretty iffy company in my opinion. You'd be much better off going with a barebones kit from either Newegg or TigerDirect.

Expanding upon what Ph?bus and the others said here: I purchased a pre-built from CyberPower at Christmas '09 -- and let me warn you now, if you DO order from them, always put aside the extra $50 or so that it takes to expedite the shipping down to 3-5 days or you will be waiting up to 2 months for it to be built and shipped if it's a busy holiday/season.

That said, they're not a BAD company. It's just that you pay premium prices for backwater parts. I've actually opened up the rig I ordered and unless you specifically pay extra for the brand you want (which isn't always an option; sometimes that brand isn't an option to select, as they have a very small selection of top-notch brands), you'll get low-quality components from brands you've probably never heard of, which may not be a gamble you want to take with the price you'll be paying.

I figured the math out and -- typically, it is about 20-55% more PER component on TOP of the shipping charges, assembly fees, and any applicable taxes. Well over a hundred bucks for a 700W Corsair PSU? $400 for a GTX 560? wat

Honestly, your best option if you don't want to build the entire thing yourself is to order a barebone kit that suits your budget, then put in your own quality components. The rig that I ordered hasn't fallen apart yet, but the mediocre quality of each part and "who the hell are they?" names of the brands on the components is a little concerning.

Newegg + Frys = Happy customer.

Plus, Fry's will price match with Newegg. :)

Also, Newegg has put up some videos on how to build your own PC, some people might find them pretty helpful:

personally id find if u already have 700 or so mbucks..save it till u get about 1200 and just buy all new from the start and get everything u want upfront rather than buy now upgrade later tends to work out for the better this way i tried it awhile back ended up being a race to try to keep my computer current with games every couple months till i just could...built my pc for about 1200 few months back well almost a year now havent had any issue with any game that has come out since and im not expected ot for a while

Hmm so to clarify, you will be putting it together instead of buying premade? Now, I can help you with this build. First and foremost I have a question, is this PC for gaming?

What is your final budget, Naku is right, you should save your money and wait, $700 will not get you that far if it is a gaming rig. I will get you quality components. Also will you be needing windows ?

yes its for gaming, im also buying windows and a monitor, idk what my final budget is but ive been gaming on a dell laptop for two years to long and it has serious heat issues which has been causing me problems. I will be gaming on the new pc primarily and hoping to upgrade over time. I dont think its the better option either but I cant stand this laptop any longer to be honest. That being said when im looking to add on or upgrade ill probably contact you and phobus for some input since i havnt really purchased a PC myself before. Id still be interested in any input you have though for now so i have things to think about as time goes buy and i decided to make more purchases.

Sounds good man, yah, everyone has to start at some point. From what I have experienced, the hardest thing in building a gaming rig is picking out the parts, the best bang for the buck, and compatibility are the two factors. You can always add a monitor later down the road, as well as a good mouse.

You should focus on the PC hardware.. Just hit me up, and Ill be happy to help you out ;)

Just tossing out some ideas, but here's some parts. This wouldn't fall within a $700 budget however. Totals out to $930. But gives you an idea on what kind of bang you can get for the buck.
