Well it may not be a release date but its definitely a reason to get excited about something! I'll pretty much just leave it at this: Pre-order is now available for Star Wars The Old Republic. Here is a link to their page where you can select what edition of the game you want; Standard, Deluxe, or Collectors.

Ravage is right it's a game, don't go for the most expensive 1, and you will be fine, a guy ordered the 150$ preorder and they ran out, it happens just get the cheaper of the 3, and you will be fine.

I am getting it I dont know about the rest of you. but it's supposed to be a fun game. gonna try it out :)

Hey, cool. My brother ordered it for me first thing as it was announced, as I was sick and sleep; I apparently got in the first 50,000 to order the collector's edition, so WOO!

I refuse to pay $60 upfront for a game that requires a monthly subscription. That's ridiculous.

If it helps, they do include a free month. A lot of modern games are hitting the shelves at $60... they're just usually console games or special editions. I do agree, though: the price tags are a little wonky. :/

Do you get early access if you preorder from the store or only from Origin?

I think it would be criminal for them not to include a free month. $60 for a game you can't even play?

But still, even with the free month, that's ridiculous. Let's say they charge $15 a month. Subtract that $15 from the $60 price tag = $45. What am I getting out of that $45?

It seems to me like the only reason to charge $60 upfront is if you know the game isn't good enough to retain a significant number of players, so they want to recover as much dev costs as possible right away. If they made the game itself cheaper or free, they would likely get a much larger player base at least for a month or two. The more people that try the game = more people get hooked and pony up $15 a month for an extended period.

I don't mind paying $60 for a game, and I don't mind paying $15 a month, but I refuse to do both.

I definitely think EA is charging extra purely because they can, and they're banking in on the massive anticipation of the players. Pre-launch boxes and digital orders can total up to over a million copies for the average MMO (they're likely going to sell all 500,000 collectors' edition boxes priced at $160 each, then every last digital deluxe and standard edition paid off); given how many people want TOR and they want it BADLY, it's a -- mildly ridiculous, but economically smart move for EA. I think it's unfair to the players, but unfortunately, people are going to buy it anyway.

A lot of work went into this game. Show me a game this massive that releases for anything less than $60. Obviously none of you have bought an mmo before especially from a major development studio like Bioware.

WoW was $60 and its expansions were all around 50 bucks too. If you dont like it dont buy it. I cant believe people are complaining about a $60 price tag when all major new games from major stuidos cost and have been costing $60 for the past few years.

Personally I find this cost very reasonable. This game could have released for up to $80 retail. Why? Tons of orchestral and musical work. All the voice acting in this game (Each character in game has his own voice not 20 different voices from the same actor) I could go on and on on how epic this game has been development wise. $60 is a steal!

You don't have to tell me not to buy it. I already said I wasn't going to.

And I have bought MMO's before. Never paid more than $40. Stop pretending you know what other people have and haven't bought. You don't.

I usually try not to pay that much either. I usually wait a year or so to buy a game so I don't have to pay the $50 or now $60 price tag on it. This game I cannot wait for. So I will be throwing down the cash.

Sorry you won't be getting this game. It will be fun if you enjoy the Star Wars lore.

Well I shouldn't have said I'll never buy it. I might when I decide it's worth it. Probably once it's $30-$40 or less.

Part of my dislike is that I don't have all that much free time (only in summer). During the semester I'm busy with 16-18 credits, clubs + intramurals, and work.

I would be paying $60 to be able to get to level 10. If it came with 3 or even 2 months of sub, then I might be more willing to pay for it.

I think it is worth $40 but $60 is crazy. But I am really thinking about getting the Digital Collectors Edition.

Still no release date or system requirements. Won't be preordering ToR, but it will probably be one of my first purchases after getting myself a decent computer (which I doubt will happen for a few months). At least I still have a $30 target gift card from my b-day so I can save a bit of cash on the purchase =p

From 2 of my RL friends (WHO GOT LUCKIER THAN ME! :facewall:) in the Beta they have nothing but good things to say about the game. I am pre ordered and ready to go , and I did not have to wait in a digital line like Vertago posted earlier, guess it got busy.

Sure would like to try it before buying!!! Guessing there will be no demo?

Got the cheap one too but I sprang for express shipping so I dont have to wait an additional 4 days after release for it and should get it the day after release.
