Could someone give me a quick down and dirty on using vent in BF2?
I have the headset and downloaded vent, did the settings as directed in another thread. Just finally joining the times here and dont know if there is a specific room to be in within vent and what are the buttons during gameplay to speak. i.e. squad, team, or all. Vent noob :)

What button you use for "push to talk" is up to you, I use l-alt. The rooms are set up so people in different servers can use different rooms, in theory. Room 6 is R rated have to be over 16 I think it is to get in, honor system here. Other than that pick a room say hi, ask what server their on and join in. I'm in room 6 usually, us old farts know our place.

I like using CAPS-LOCK key for push to talk in vent...but the choice is yours.

what are the buttons during gameplay to speak. i.e. squad, team, or all. Vent noob :)

Go to Setup and on the left is a Hotkey area which sets what button you will use to talk and enable push to talk or not above. Vent isn't going to recognize squad, team, or all, you are going to be talking with the people that are in your vent channel.

Thanks. This gets me closer to joining the modern age. I was notified that I kept keying up my mic earlier. Set for l-ctrl, which is crouch so I now i know why that was happening. Appreciate the help.

I use Number pad + - it's a bit of a reach for the left hand, but for the right hand works pretty well. I don't normally fight and chat in the same instance, so it works for me.

I like to use one of the side buttons on my mouse if you have one of those. Pretty handy.

Yeah I use mouse button 5 for my vent push to talk key. Also a quick clarification on what tipton said: the R rated rooms have no set age limit that you have to be to enter but it says in the MOTD that minors/people who have issues with hearing foul language are expected to avoid these rooms.

Also, remember, you are NOT actually talking to the players in game(Squad, Team, All). You are only talking to the other Vent users on the vent user you connected to and channel you join.

One additional thing, if you set L-Alt as your hotkey for vent, as many people do, it's also the default hotkey for in game VOIP so either disable or change that in BC2 settings otherwise you'll be double broadcasting to anyone on your squad that's also in vent and that can be pretty damn annoying. Coming from both a recipient and offender of such behavior...

All very good info. Thanks once again. I will change to one of the multitude of buttons on this Naga mouse. Knew I would find a use for one of the 15 of them someday. 41 year old former Marine oil field worker so there isnt alot I could hear in the R-rated rooms that I havent heard a hundred times over. My oldest son finally brought me into the Vent. He kept complaining that we couldnt coordinate our efforts in game. LOL. I finally gave in. Thanks!
