The Old Republic Pre-order

Got the cheap one too but I sprang for express shipping so I dont have to wait an additional 4 days after release for it and should get it the day after release.

Hmm, most of the times I have pre-ordered games they have been delivered on release day with regular shipping. I think Amazon offers this or something.

not buying it, never bought an MMO never will, monthly fee is a scam. have fun everyone who will play it!

And this is why I pre order games from Walmart (even though I don't like walmart). they are usually a few $ cheaper and almost always arrive on the day of release :P

The monthly fee isn't a scam. It takes a lot of money to maintain the servers of large scale MMO's. I think $15 is too much, but $10 would be reasonable. It also goes to the dev of content updates.

I assume they will making dlc once the game is out. I seriously hope they aren't going to be like WoW and charge decent chunks of cash for DLC... If they do then I'll most likely only be playing vanilla ToR. One of the many reasons that EVE is my preferred mmo is because its new content is always free

I will anticipate DLC in the form of expansions and they will probably follow the WoW expansion priceline. That's fine w/ me personally, provided they contain a large amount of content to justify the pricing.

I just hope they never introduce the micro-trans store or card-game like WoW did....talk about disgusting greed.... ugh.

Sadly, all they really care about is money so it will most probably happen.

I doubt it considering the amount of appeal that Star Wars has not to mention the fact that if there was a star wars card game it would already be out by now.

"Today during the Activision-Blizzard Q3 earnings call, Mike Morhaime finally revealed the percentage of revenue from the Moonkin Hatchling -- previously announced at BlizzCon -- that will be donated to charity.

As he said, it's the next companion pet for the Blizzard Store created specifically as a means of raising funds, and it will follow the same lines as the Pandaren Monk from last year, with 50% of revenue being donated. He also reiterated that the pet will go on sale in the store later this month.

While Morhaime didn't confirm that the proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, like the 1.1 million generated by the Pandaren Monk, it's probably a safe guess that it will be. Blizzard has very close ties to Make-A-Wish, and so these charity companion pets look to be another means to them contributing to the foundation."

"Blizzard Entertainment today released a new companion pet in the Blizzard Store, the Cenarion Hatchling. The company plans to donate the proceeds from the pet to the Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief efforts.

The relief fund is set up to help with the costs of recovering from an earthquake and subsequent tsunami, which has left a considerable portion of one of the world's most technologically advanced nations in shambles.

From now until July 31, 2011 100% of the revenue from the Cenarion Hatchling will be donated to the American Red Cross fund. You can get the pet on the North American store here, and the European store here."

Yup, that definitely sounds like a greedy corporation...

Snipeye is worried because Old Republic is the WoW killer!

How am I worried when I was one of the first to show support for the Old Republic? And it's not going to kill WoW, fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you see it. With a rumored 4th expansion pack in development, and continued interest from subscribers, it still got a few years left, minimum, in its life cycle before Blizzard decides to kill it themselves for the new IP they're developing.

And since you've never talked to me before about my view of Star Wars the Old Republic, WoW, or any MMORPG for that matter, I don't see how you claim anything about my view of SWTOR.

Edit: And if anyone even thinks I'm anti-SWTOR...

Do the research.

I guess the obvious joke wasnt obvious enough.... :( Calm down snipeye it was only a joke and wasnt calling you out or anything sheesh....

WoW subscriber base has been going down for awhile now. Not to mention most of the original playerbase who started in Vanilla WoW no longer play anymore because its not the same game when it started and a lot of people are unhappy with its evolution. Most people I know when I first started playing WoW way back when no longer play and those that do play and have quit have already told me that they will most likely be jumping ship to OR. Why?

Most villains from the old strategy games have been killed off in WoW. Apart from KilJaeden and Sargeras theres really no villains left that are alive. Arthas is dead Illidan is dead vashj kael etc etc the list goes on and on. Theres only so much more the original fans of the warcraft series will stand for before blizzard starts making up new villains.

Regardless though I wont get into every single flaw that WoW has these days as not to hijack the thread in a new direction and start drama. But its a known fact that WoW server pop is no longer growing and has in fact started to decline in the last year or so. Old Republic is a strong contender to take away from that player base. Im not saying its a definite that it will but it has the strongest chance of any mmo as of yet to if not replace WoW or take its throne but to become its strongest competitor which I think it will.

Also the other thing that will help off WoW is when Blizzard releases more details on what their next gen MMO Titan will be.
