It's not just Mesa, I believe that both 2fort, and Egypt are down too. I think Valve capture point server is up though.

As for Mesa, it depends on the class. Soldiers, Scouts and Pyros can do quite well with defaults only. Snipers, Heavies and Demomen might have to adjust their playstyle, and I'd recommend against all but the best spies with defaults (then again, I recommend only the best play Spy on Mesa anyway )

Yes and no.

Buff Banner and Disc. Action make the Solly a major team asset; without them, hit and run tactics are more appealing.

Likewise, taking away the third jump means scout can't get into the vent from the map room, limiting options when scouting or pushing L/C.

Pyro is seriously nerfed. The puff and sting is a mainstay. This becomes lethally obvious the 3rd or 10th time I tried to puff and sting someone.

Sniper... it depends, although no more Lucksmen is a godsend.

I 'main' Heavy, and my playing style has had to change a bit. Normally, I always use GRU and Sandvich for their abilities to haul arse, build an uber faster, heal my medic, or be a human sentry gun if the engie needs cover. I'm still able to rack up kills, but that is mainly due to other classes being forced to use Vanilla weps (ie no DR spies, P&S pyros, or SS demoknights).

Demo: like I said, no more Demoknights. Huzzah!

Spy: I play spy least, but I did manage to pull off some decent sprees and sap several nests. I think this is due to a false sense of security with no DR spies around.

how would sniper be affected? other than huntsman and pee shooter which none of those are really snipers anyway i use default setup for sniper 98% of the time the only thing i dont have that isn't default is i use a different shiv WHICH i use rarely i usually kill close combat with smg

I agree. I decided to try vanilla Demoman recently for the first time in ages and loved it. I regret playing demoknight for so long. The only thing I would replace would be the bottle with either the Caber, Half-Zatoichi, or Pain train.

If you know how to jump with only 2 jumps you can get in the vents

Well I was playing w/ RL when items were down and I felt the game was....too easy.


There's no C&D spy sitting in invisible waiting for his pray to come. There's no DR spy. There's no chain stabbing YER. There's no 2 shot kill I forgot the name of the gun. There's no headshot Ambassador. There's no Fez set spy.

There's no sniper with jarate+bushwacka. Which means going close to them and knocking their teeth down is not risky at all.

There's no heavy with Brass/Tomislav. Heavy isn't too effected tho. Minigun is better in most cases anyway.

There's no scout with milkman or bonk. There's no +25 health scout. There's no scout who has almost maxed out his hype and is waiting to encounter an enemy.

There's no demoknight. There's no demo with scottish resistance. None with LnL either.

There's no medic with Crossbow+Amputator set. There's no medic with quick fix/kritz. There's no medic with the awesome ubersaw.

There's no pyro with backburner, flaregun/detonator. There's no pyro with Postal Plummer. Pyro is useless.

There's no soldier with buff and DA...which is what made soldier fun for me. Still soldier could kick ass.

Engineer has no...nobody cares about him lol


point being more weapons = more choices = more fun. I've to adjust my gameplay based on what I see the other player is carring. If everyone is using the same default set, I already know how their weapons act and I can easily go in a killing spree with say soldier or heavy.
