What type of server will we be playing on? Will it be pve or pvp server?

For those who dont know the difference pve means you both sides can run around worlds and do quests without fighting each other in the main world. This means that if the sides have quests in the same area they are restricted from killing each other while they are trying to do quests or waiting outside of a dungeon. The only way to engage the other side is to either go to pvp specific battlegrounds or issue duels.

A pvp world is the opposite. If you see a sith running around doing a quest and you are a republic smuggler. You can be a sneaky butthole and kill him in the middle of his quest and he can do likewise to you. There are no rules limiting where you can engage players of the opposite factor.

When I played on WoW I played on a pve server. Mostly this was because I did not like to have to deal with people killing me and interrupting my questing in the open world by the opposite side. Nor did I like waiting outside of a dungeon and getting ganked by a bunch of people from the other side.

I think that would be the server I would like to play on this time around too but it would be weird having republic and empire people standing around each other not figthing and waiting for dungeons to start.

Im not even sure how Old Republic will tackle the server types and if there will be just one over all type of server... Does anyone know what the final word is on this? Will we take a vote on which type of server if there are different types to establish ourselves?

As of right now both guilds are PVP. I will talk with Jedi about PVE.

Any reason why we chose PVP over PVE server?

I would think that playing the game on a PVE server would be better so i dont have to keep watching my back while trying to get quests and such done.

If you want PVE you should try KOTOR...lol

Haha, nice.

For my two cents, I've never much enjoyed PvE servers. There's just something wrong about a Jedi/Alliance walking by a Sith/Horde and not having ANY tension at all, to the point that it's detrimental to a game's immersion factor, from my perspective. In a game like SWTOR, I feel like this would be even further magnified than in WoW considering the vast(er) lore of the universe coupled with the very story-driven structure of the game.

I prefer the excitement of not always being safe.

well, as a fellow WoW player, I've always played on PvP servers and never really had ganking problems. it only started out at lvl 30 - 40 and even these days your more likely to ganked in Northrend and in the Cataclysm area's, because those are the lvls most players are in.

And dont forget the fact that usually a lot of area's are made for Republic or Empire. Take a look at WoW, Alliance players are leveling more in Eastern kingdoms, where as Horde players usually level in Kalimdor.

and ofcourse as you said before, the fact that an Imperial could stand next to a Republic player without them not being able to attack eachother. It's like Sith and Jedi are good friends XD

If you are worried about getting ganked you probably shouldn't. I am sure they have it structured to be very hard for someone to gank you early on. Not saying it won't happen but that person will most likely get pooped on by other players or some type of guards. I really wouldn't worry about it.

As of now having talked with people at the meeting last night, the overwhelming desire from myself and those at the meeting is for us to go onto a PvP server, so unless there is a sudden outcry from the community that isn't what we want, we'll be going to a PvP server.

I was not able to attend the meeting and there was a few of us who also were not able to attend can we have a follow up meeting perhaps to go over this as well? Also to go over the stuff we missed?

That would be nice considering there wasn't much notification.
