is this skin allowed?

i downloaded this skin here:

i went into an empty server to test it out. obviously the iron sights is different, but the red dot is lined up with the original iron sight. also the gun makes a different sound when fired.

before i went into one of our servers and started using it, i wanted to make sure it was ok to use it on the servers

that sight, to me, gives an obvious advantage as the user can see 360 degrees around the sight.

IMHO... it should not be allowed.

I know this was brought up in the past... recently someone bumped an old thread that discussed this very item.

well, f it turns out that it isn't allowed, how do i uninstall it?

even if it is allowed, i might not keep it long because i don't want to have to deal with people accusing me of cheating.

that's the m1 garand. it's never blacked out around the scope. you're thinking about the sniper rifles silent predator. There's nothing wrong with the skin.

People can't tell if you have the skin so they can't really accuse you of cheating.

Also, I really don't see a problem with it, and I'm pretty sure in the last thread it was deemed ok to use. Skins are easily downloadable, free and have no risk of getting a virus so they are available to everyone.

Also, it does not give all that much of an advantage. You get a little more view while using iron sights with the rifle, but let's be honest, how often do you use those iron sights?

Just think about the intent of the skin. If like CWhit mentioned a sniper scope when zoomed in has no "blackout" around the edges, it destroys the intent of the original limiting vision of the scope. Same goes for player models or glowing orange grenades.

I know, I only thought that he thought that other people would see his garand is different when they are speccing him. So I attempted to correct it. I didn't mean that: "If people can't tell your cheating it's not cheating"

Yea I would say that skin is perfectly fine, although it is unrealistic. I have a lot of reskins, if you get good ones it makes the game look really good. Even better graphics than new games.

If you want to have a lot of REALLY GOOD skins in one download, these are probably the best two.

In spec you don't see what skins other people have installed, since it's clientside not serverside. You will see all Garands as that type of skin, no matter what skin other people use. Just as everyone else will see the garand skin they have installed while speccing you.

ok, well i decided to use smilo's skin that he posted....now i need to figure out how to remove the skin for the garand.

Nav to your dod folder

dod/materials/models/weapons/v_models
Delete your garand folder(s)

dod/models/weapons
Delete anything that has garand in it

if you like the custom sounds more than reg, keep these sound files, no harm...or
dod/sound/weapons
Delete anything that has garand in it


Going completely off of memory since i play vanilla (minus my hud...), hope I didn't miss anything.
