I think if it's $5, then it's worth it!

I think it's $5 worth it!
Honestly, I didn't really think I'd like this game when I bought it... I didn't like it at all when I played it for a few minutes. I even tried mining with friends, we'd switch off guard positions in caves and etc, and that was pretty fun for a bit.
After that, I put it down, and didn't really spend more than an hour on it in all. I had hardly any good items, mediocre gear (silver/gold), and didn't feel like it was totally challenging and it becomes way too repetative.
...or so I thought when this topic encouraged me to spend 20 hours in the past couple days, experiencing what Terraria is all about. I realized that, since I was playing it too much like Minecraft. Just like our fabulous GameRom reviewer said, you cannot compare the two, nor can you really transfer knowledge from both games.
Terraria isn't about mining, or building. (Though, you CAN create some impressive structures, signs, or whatever your heart desires.) It's more focused on NPCs, getting money, gearing up, and killing stuff.
Probably one of the coolest things you can do is fight one of the three bosses (Or all three if you're on a server and you're up to a completely insane challenge) in mid air using a Gravitation potion to fly, spam arrows, spells, and whatever other ranged weapons and have an epic battle in the sky. (Probably worth the few hours of collecting items, since you can reuse them, or buy more from other people -- since Terraria has that GREAT feature where your inventory travels with you from server to server and if you set yourself on Softcore, you don't drop your items on death.)
Even increasing the number of enemies doesn't dull the game. Fighting off 4 Eye of Cthulus (One of the main bosses) is just one combination of enemies to test your skills and gear; and believe me, there might be a gear cap, a health cap and mana cap, but the skill and just number of combinations of buffs and weaponry enhances the overall experience. Despite the number of enemies and number of failed attempts, I can promise you, there is no end to the complexity and skill you can use in this game to overcome any challenge. Even starting out again with complete copper gear and 100 health makes things interesting from time to time.
This is one of those indie games where it strives to make you push yourself to accomplish a task. Like Super Meat Boy, or VVVVVV, you will rage, you will get mad at the game, it might get repetative, but there is skill and this game has so much potential that people cannot see in the first few minutes of gameplay. It's JUST like Minecraft in that regard (Not the gameplay, just the starting bit.), you have no idea what you're doing, you are unaware of the potential, you don't know half of the possibilities. It's just a bit more slow paced in the beginning, but it will get so much better with time.
TL;DR
I know the $5 sale was over, but if you have any doubts, and you already purchased it, try it with some friends, even try inventory hacking to get a taste of what is achievable. (But of course, don't abuse/spoil yourself.) Try a few bosses, try some servers.

Don't forget the King of Slimes! I was on my way to fight Skeletron and he appeared. I wasn't happy when he beat me lol.

and the craziest thing I fought was a mother slime. This game is a lot of fun. In a way it's like monster hunter, which I really love. I think this game is a lot more fun in SP than MC is and I can't wait to play MP with ego
I'd like to have some eGO people to play with one day. You know, gather up in vent and play Terraria. I'd really like to get into this game more to see what it's really about, but I just can't do it.
Doing some underworld stuff...a terrible computer/server crash two days ago while playing Gmod (I host my server for close friends and family, sorry) made me lose my Blade of Grass, meaning I have to farm for a new one in order to make my Night's Edge, despite having all the other swords...
I do have a molten pickaxe, though, which means I am officially farther than my old character. And it's awesome. The only problem is that now it breaks stuff so fast that it seems slow to start breaking a new block when you just hold down mouse1.
You are much farther than me. I farmed Devourer of Worlds for a full set of Shadow Armor and the Shadow equipment (The war axe and the hammer). I also got into the underworld and got enough to upgrade to the Flamarang, which I love! Also finally beat Skeletron and made my Necro armor. Thinking about going back to the jungle next, or more trips into Underworld to make hellstone equipment and armor.
Also, I am with the sentiment that wants to play together. I can't host but if someone could host a large world I would love to make a new character and join it!

We should all get a server to play together.... just saying.
Whoever's up for paying for one or hosting it for us, then why not?!
