Customer Service is messing with me

So I'm on the phone with Fidelity for my 401k plan. This person I was talking to CLEARLY knows I'm female but keeps saying "sir". I had corrected him probably like 10 times. I mean c'monnn my name is Christina. I sound like a girl, look like a girl (even though he can't see it) but overall I'm a girl. Then he would slip up and say "m'am"

So I have come to the conclusion he is clearly messing with me. GRRRR! Guess he needs to find some way to make the day go by faster.

well, you do sound like a man over the phone... :) *Zapp Brannigan Voice* "A very... sensual man."

lol people who have jobs like telemarketing and customer service are idiots. I spent like 2 hours on the phone, getting transferred like 14 times to another "department" when I ended up at the first guy I talked to. I was trying to see what the hell happened to the stuff I ordered but apparently I ended up in the airport. Like it shipped from NJ, went to LA freaking airport and *almost* ended up on a flight to hawaiii. It was a 2 day shipment I paid for too. I waited an entire half year before it came. Fun times.

Generalize much? I worked as a call center rep for 5 years before moving over to my current position. Boring, but they were paying me way to much to quit.

As for the guy that Delusi0nal talked to, he may well have been an idiot. Or was screwing with her - especially if he got a rise out of you when you corrected him. I never thought of doing that when I was answering phones. Could have been entertaining...

If I worked your job I would be messing with people like that too. If you do try it let us know how it goes. Hopefully you dont get yelled at.

I'm not kidding though, almost every customer service person I've talked to usually never helps at all.

I supposed I would do that too if I was in a crappy job like that. Well, if they are paying you enough, then I guess it would be tolerable.

The funnest part I had, was when I phoned this lady for collections (she owed about 3 months worth of bills for her cell phone). I'd asked for some time frame ie tomorrow, or next week, etc. (she'd said soon), and she flipped. After her going off for about 5 minutes or so, I'd asked her if she was done yet, and she said she wasn't, so I said "by all means, please continue" and she went off again for another 5 minutes or so. She slammed down the phone when I wished her a nice day (in the politest voice possible). I'd just put my feet up and tuned her out, and didn't let her get to me. My co-workers and I laughed about that for a while after wards. She also gave me her visa to take an immediate payment.

That, or the call when some young lady called about her bill... to find that it was at $24,000. This was back around 2003, and LD rates between the Northwest Territories and Lebanon were a little bit higher than they are now. She called in and asked for her balance, and was like, okay thanks, like she didn't have a problem in the world. She sounded very young (18-22 maybe?). It took a few years, but she eventually paid it all off.

It was a small call center. At it's peak it had 6 call center reps. When things slowed down, there were 4 of us. We all got along very well, and had a ton of fun. And they paid very well (thanks union).

But I don't do that any more, I'm in the technical side now, so if a customer is a complete ass to me, I just hang up, and put their ticket off for a few days... But now, as I'm fixing their problems, they're almost always very pleasant to deal with.

u sound like one of those ppl who call tech-support and then ask all those silly questions like "my internet isnt working, is it because im missing a monitor?"
or "where do i insert money to pay for the internets"

sounds like you guys don't know how to talk to customer support. If you call them with the attitude that they suck, and you are never helped, then thats exactly whats going to happen. I always get help, "unless I call linksys".

I've gotten free operating systems calling dell support, I've gotten help past warranties, free stuff, and help on a dsl line, being on the phone for over an hr past the time the guy was supposed to get off because he wanted to help me.

It's all about how you talk to them. If you treat them with respect and understanding, and try and be nice to them, and let them know that you will work around their schedule, instead of everyone being angry because they never work around their own, then your service, as always, will be terrible.

When they say "im going to put you on hold, i say "take all the time you need""
When they say their name, I tell them its either beautiful, or if its a guy say "What's up ____, you doin' alright man? Getting off soon?"

It's a comfort zone. If people on both ends are comfortable, your problem will be fixed.

And as for you Delusi0nal ---
