This issue was brought up and discussed during our first admin round table. Currently, our "Out of Bounds" policy pretty much states that it you have to go out of bounds for any reason to get to a spot, then it's a no-go. We've also made exceptions like the light house on Valparaiso or the wind mills on Heavy Metal. The thing about those spots is that they're only accessible via chopper.

The whole point of the Out of Bounds rule is to keep the players using areas that 1) the developers never intended for the players to use and 2) prevent someone from having an advantage from knowing about how to access certain spots on all of the maps where regular players would never imagine to get shot from. We basically decided to put up a vote to basically decide if we should keep it as is, or remove the exceptions so that Out of Bounds will mean you cannot go out of bounds for anything and you cannot use vehicles to get to isolated spots (i.e. the light house on Valparaiso, the wind mills on Heavy Metal, ect.)

The poll will close in seven days, so please vote and post a response as to why you've chose that option.

Only issue I had on Heavy Metal was the hill above B on the side that has the AA gun. Russians can go up it no problem, but for the US team you can't and you'd either have to go all the way around, exposed to get up the hill to clear out snipers or engineers, or you scramble up the hill out of bounds for 10 seconds to get up there.

I think leave it as is.

I also think an exception should be made for the hill above B in Heavy Metal as Jaxxom mentioned above. You should be able to scramble up the back of the hill even though you are going slightly out of bounds because the area you are going to is accessible from the other direction on foot or by heli from any direction with out going out of bounds. I don't see any advantage to it.

Remove the exceptions; make even across the board.

Some pubbers may not know these things or new, results may cost us new members. Keep it simple make it even across the board all.

I voted the wrong way - I accidentally voted for "Remove the Exceptions", but I meant to vote for "Leave it as Is".

So, when you tally the votes, remove one from the Remove, and Add one for Leave It.

The way I look at it is - if DICE didn't want these areas accessible, they could've easily patched it with bigger invisible walls. I don't mind the out of bounds rules though as I never use those spots, however, places accessible by a chopper should be allowed. Gives a new element to the use of the chopper. (Especially considering in HC, the miniguns are somewhat useless since they have no crosshairs anyways, so I think most people use it as transport)

From an admin point of view, making all the known areas such as the lighthouse, and the windmills would be great. But, if you really think about it, everyone in the server pretty much knows about getting on the lighthouse or the windmill. It is very easy for them to call it out to their teammates, "Hey we got a guy on the lighthouse/windmill!" After the call out it is very easy for the certain person on the lighthouse to die or be fired upon so much they can't kill anyone anyways. Vote for rule staying the same, it is simple as is. "Going out of bounds for any reason is considered exploiting on eGO servers."

It seems fine as is, usually if someone even get to the top of the light house or wind mill they are almost always spotted right away and get shot down.

In regards to the people suggesting the lighthouse stay. We should make the cliffs in val parison and other levels exceptions as well then. It follows the exact same logic you're using. I think anywhere you can't get on foot should be off limits personally, out of bounds doesn't really bother me as much except in certain maps (Cold War). Seem kind of silly that we kick for the cliff and not the lighthouse honestly. Let's not forget about the tops of trees while we're on the issue of valpariso's lighthouse and cliffs. They should be allowed as well if the rule stays as is.

The problem with the rule currently is that there are too many exceptions, which is why I voted it should just get rid of the chopper-accessible areas. None of those areas benefit teamplay anyways and usually just end up removing a vehicle, which in turn, causes more problems.

I voted leave as is. I would also like to see exceptions made for places like the previously mentioned hill at B on Heavy Metal. I personally don't see these spots as a blatant disregard for the level design and not particularly advantageous. That said, I wouldn't mind a blanket ban on tree climbing, heli accessible only and otherwise. It'd piss some people off for sure (I love to wookie from the trees myself) but I think a strong argument can be made that none of the trees were meant to be climbed.

I voted leave as is as well. However, I agree the above should be allowed. However, on Rush maps like Valparaiso, only one side has a helicopter, so the other side has NO access to those spots. I think it should be equal across the board.

Leave the rule as it is.

Already we(the admins) can't enforce the rule b/c they need to see the player and the player name to enforce the rule.

Leave it as it is, if you change anything it will be tougher to admin the servers then.

I would like to know what the advantage of being in this chopper only areas actually is for your team?

If you're on the lighthouse, you're not helping, you're just farming kills for your KDR and being worthless. 1 smoke grenade on the ground by an objective and you can't cover it anymore.
The windmills in heavy metal are pointless as well, although they can at least offer a nice view.

My point is that none of these locations yield any benefit to the team orientated playstyle of this game. Please consider this before voting on your option, assuming you've read the entire thread anyways. If you didn't read the whole thread before voting, then that makes me a sad panda, lol.

Leave as is. It only takes like 2 deaths from these exception spots to find out where they are, and from then on are easily avoidable. Otherwise, an exploit should be considered anywhere where the player has to go out of bounds in order to access.

About the tree climbing forty2skates brought up, I see nothing wrong with this.

I agree, plus one reason this rule is in place is to keep people playing the game the way it is meant to be played. Getting to a spot via chopper does not require you to get out of bounds, limiting those areas just seems like were laying too many rules onto the game.

id say leave it as it is. everyones used to it and the spots arent too hard to get to.

I beleive we should go to the rule if you truely go out of bounds (when the timer starts to tick down) it should not be allowed. Any other spot that is in bounds is fair game as long as it is within the map. I think it would make admining easier and there would be less fights.

All I really play is Heavy Metal.

...I am sure the programmers could've made the windmills pointy on the top to prevent folks from going up there...or insta-kill if you were not intended to go out of bounds...but they didn't.

Pretty forward thinking they (the programmers) made a way for the US side to covertly get above B on Heavy Metal (but you do have to go out of bounds). This should be ok and helps keep the balance to the game. The russian side has the possibility of taking Jeeps across but they are exposed for a long period of time AND the slope slows the jeep so much if anyone is paying attention you get plastered. (Jeeps and Tanks CAN go down the cliff face and avoid the "out-of-bounds" rule, this is a distinct advantage to the Russians as the American side cannot get on the hill from their side without going out of bounds.)

Bottomline: For Heavy Metal anyways, All this stuff was designed in, why add extra rules and have to police it?

PS - I am biased as I love to 'Base Jump' from the windmills. It is thrilling when one of my squad mates decides to camp up there, I just spawn and re-spawn on him so I can step off, look straight down and pop the chute at the last minute. (I think the 180 degree screen view has something to do with the effect). They usually don't last long...

PS - If you are bent on the "No out of bounds" rule maybe you could talk EA into introducing a variable time limit and reduce it to 2s? (I believe out-of-bounds is necessary for the US side to get above B or take out enemies harassing B from above the hill).

Also...How does anyone really know "How the game is Supposed to be played!"?

I really don't think the windmills OR the out-of bounds unbalances the game, at least as far as Heavy Metal is concerned.

Thanks,
