Well I guess valve stopped making money from it so they decided to put it up for free, I guess if I wanted to play portal I would play the second one

There isn't a reason NOT to get Portal....its great even if you don't like puzzle games...

think of it from a business perspective.

Portal has lost its luster so people will be more likely to pick it up since its free now. They would then be more motivated/interested in buying Portal 2 since they loved (hopefully) the first Portal.


Basically they are using an exhausted revenue stream to augment one thats starting to wither away.

I heard that Valve is tying this into their "Learn with Portals" initiative to get school to teach physics and math in schools through the use of portal. It's actually pretty cool

Other than that, I think I got it last time it was free (Plus I got the Orange Box some time after that anyway). I like the original game a lot, but I still have yet to play the 2nd.
