So after putting up with two motherboards from Asus that just totally failed, I decided to try out the new Gigabyte G1.Sniper board.

Asus Rampage III has totally failed me on an epic level and they have no idea about anything. At all.

The board fried a power supply (literally - burn marks to prove it on the supply plug to the board), has reset the CMOS so many times I lost count, shut down the PC for whatever reason, (not related to heat, been watching that too) and this is just the second board. ;)

Hoping Gigabyte is still a good board, used them a long while back in my Asheron's Call days. It was great. Yeah, the Killer NIC is overboard, the heat sinks on the board are a bit overboard, but hey, I am a gun fanatic and it has great reviews. :P
 
Was it just a freak one time thing Amodin? Hate to look at buying an Asus Rampage III for a future build and its actually a common problem.

Personally, I've used Gigabyte boards for my last 3 builds since my first board died and took out several other components too (ASUS board killed floppy drive, CD-RW drive, hard drive, and a sound card.)
 
I know how frustrating some boards can be =\

Mine (MSI 870-G54) Keeps giving me the hyper-tranport flood sync error :mad:
 
I <3 my gigabyte motherboard--absolutely no complaints.

As for Asus, have you tried doing an RMA? My Asus monitor broke, I sent it in, and they repaired it right away.

No, seems to be the running thing in our house. I've gone through two boards, and my wife is about done with hers as well with the same issues... although she hasn't melted power supplies down yet. :P

Looking forward to the new board, PSU and case.

I did the RMA thing, they just sent out the same problem to me.
 
I went from multiple Asus enthusiast type boards over the years to ASRock for my last 2 builds. Anyone looking for a new MOBO should for sure check them out. Haven'y liked what a mobo manufacturer has delivered so consistently since the DFi Lan Party days. The ASRock stuff is the perfect blend of cutting edge options an abilities with rock solid stability and ease of use.
 
Why was this moved from Tech Talk to General Forums? Someone dun goofed...
 
Is this a common problem with ASUS? Cause I recently built my gaming pc and I used an ASUS M4A88T-V EVO mobo and I don't really have the money to buy another if this one breaks :/
 
What add-in cards where you running?

It is possible you overdrew the 24pin cable, OCP failed to kick in, and burned the board.

In which case, the fault would lie more on you or your power supply choice
 
I hope I don't have problems when I purchase the Maximus IV Extreme Z board.
