i dont see why people have some kind of illusion that macs are better for editing iv used Photoshop on both a pc and mac...there is no freaking difference....i will admit macs use ram slightly more effceintly than a pc

but for the price...you could just buy more ram..and its cheaper....for real id say a 4g ram mac is about the same as 6gb pc....but what u freaking pay for the hunks of pretty crap u could just buy 16gb of ram and probably still be cheaper

Honestly.
Don't buy a mac for ANY reason what so ever is what I say.

PC's are way better for video editing and desktop publishing (Photoshop).

We have the advanced programs and Macs have the basic easy to do everyone thinks is better when it really isn't programs.

Macs are pretty much better than any platform for accessibility.

Since apple controls the hardware on their machines they can write code specifically optimized for their computers. Even if the hardware isn't as good, apple software runs great on apple machines.

Apples are fantastic platforms for programming on. Unless you're a unix junkie, then their BASH shell/terminal quirks get a little annoying.

I use my mac for all my school work, and I actually prefer it to a linux machine for reasons stated above.

Macs are also fairly easy to customize (so far as appearance goes, like icons) if you know what you're doing.

On the flipside, if you want to customize colors on output in the terminal, it's a pain in the butt if you do it through a script rather than through the gui.

So, as far as mac vs. pc goes, I'd say it depends on your use. To reiterate/expand on my previous post, PC for gaming, mac for all my single user needs, and debian for multi-user stuff.

Well it really comes down to personal preference. In my opinion pc are better for gaming and macs do have some nice qualities as well. They both have pros and cons. Like I said its preference.

As an OS, I largely prefer Mac OS over Windows. Though Snap is a damn fine feature.

If software accessibility was not an issue, I'd gladly only use a Mac. But I game, so it's both OSes for me.

At my work we have both, to put it plainly on a gaming "based" forum like this one you'll see more pc responses. If you are using it mostly for editing of any kind it is VERY much recommended to get a mac but aside from that no, pc's beats out mac on hardware costs, choices, etc. You could always make a hackintosh.

The reason being is that as much as you can reboot into windows you will never have the power (gaming) of a true windows pc and not as many options to upgrade either.

Shoot me the cost of that for one (It's 6,499.00 without tax) and a 5770? I won't even write some long argument against how they rob you on that. 3gb/s sata drive what is this 2009? most workstation PC builders give water cooling and OC those two Xeons to 4.4-4.6ghz for FREE. You CANNOT just upgrade the gpu as simply as a pc you HAVE to get approved pcix cards that are supported by the Mac OS. You COULD install something better if you wanted and just ran windows but then why waste the money on the mac if all your gonna do is run windows?

Xeon's while nice are NOT designed for gaming in any sense and since i can get that config on pc for 70% of the price my comment still stands. (with workstations) going into gaming apple doesnt sell anything that compete seeing how they only offer a 5870 as their TOP graphics card...haha [not a typo btw its a 5-870]

The fact is that Macs your paying a lot more for them and unless your doing some form of design your wasting money.

Anybody that wants to argue gaming on any computer everybody will say PC, you wanna argue design software etc then I would pick a MAC simple as that. :biggrin:

Oh for the "power" quote I wrote I'm taking about dual-booting/VMS that macs do to use windows...its not even close in performance...not...even...close

I'm not bashing macs in any way they just have their place in the computing world and its not gaming
