ISP Problems

:facewall:Ever since Hurricane Irene hit North Carolina on Sept 2, 2011 have been having problems with my ISP up-loads & down load speeds. Last night i came home and i could not log into the game server...Grrr so i did a speed test @ thai was only receiving 4mg down .073 up load. I called my ISP tech support. We reset my modem, rebooted my computer, you know all that stuff. we did another test... now i was down to 1.5 meg down and .050 up load. That issue was stepped up to a level two support agent, she did further testing with like results ( even bigger GRRRR.:facewall: I was told to leave my modem on the the field service engineers would be doing some field tests. i have to wait 48 hours to call back. ( this is Swamp working on the tech folks on the telephone :chair: ) Ok so that got me thinking? What types of speeds are you receiving from your ISP providers? I should be receiving from DSL 10 meg down and .85 up. Do you use DSL or Cable or something else to acess the internet. I have seen down loads speeds @ 100 meg down from a college. I was told that they are wired into the back bone of the inter-net. Not sure that is possible, but i am sure somebody here will be able to enlighten me. Thanks in advance Swamp

We are supposed to have a faster connection but I'm pretty sure Comcast throttles our speeds because we keep going over our 250 gig bandwidth limit. They sent us 6 warning letters so far and told us next time they are going to cancel our service.

what ISP do you have? If you are paying for 10meg service that is what should be provided to you. I do DSL ISP support, NC and VA both have gotten hit hard on the lines so if they are repairing a lot i wouldn't be surprised. takes time to find the problems.

I have not heard back from them as to the root cause or whats going on. My ISP is Embarq ( formerly Centurylink ) It's the fastest service available in my area for DSL.

Ya that is the company I do support for lol. Kinda amazed one of the engineers called you that is a small feat in and of itself. I can take a look into it a little more for you if you would like we can talk about that through pms.

More Grrr, again i had low rider download speeds. I spent over one hour on the phone, over 30 mins w/ level two support, my speeds went from 6.4 down to 2.4 and the lowest was 1.4...... so a tech was dispatched for tomorrow morning. I requested he bring a new modem, just in case. :facewall: I am quite sure many of us gamers can relate @ one time or another. Hopefully my issue will be resolved tomorrow :biggrin:

Well, i waited all day today and no show on the tech :thumbdown: i called today and was told that there is seven tickets ahead of me and they would be here some time? Oh well, i did get 10 days credit on my bill so far. this sounds like a soap opera... As the stomach churns :biggrin:

yea those 100+ Mb/s download speeds are for on campus downloads if you change the download location your speed will drop. something similar had happened to my internet at my apartment, i had 32Mb/s down, 42Mb/s up(weird i know) and we had a bad thunderstorm come through and knock out power and internet and when it came back on my internet speed dropped to 0.03Mb/s down and stayed that way for about a week while i was tearing my hair out talking to IT ppl with my ISP, its really frustrating especially if you dont have access to the modem or router

just remember the key is patience with your ISP, a lot of times they honestly dont know what is wrong until they sit there and tinker around with stuff

Oh Gee, Here we go again... :thumbdown: my down load speed was 0.97 & up load was 0.50 :facewall: so again the engineers are working on it. some times i am not able to connect to the game server. I am with you all, sometimes on the outside looking in centrylink isp services :chair:
