Anyone who knows a thing or two about graphics cards and how they're meant to perform, please help me out. First, a little background info about my current system.
I'm running an i7 950 overclocked to 3.8 GHz with two PNY 1536MB GTX 580s in SLI on an EVGA X58 3-way SLI motherboard on a 27 inch Samsung LED monitor at a resolution of 1920 by 1080. Now, the only reason I overclocked by CPU and GPUs was because I had noticed I wasn't getting what I expected out of Battlefield 3 in terms of frame rate. After disabling HTEP and hyperthreading in my BIOS and overclocking my CPU and GPUs, Battlefield 3 runs like heaven.
Now, here's the kicker; I tried running MSI Kombustor's "Extreme" KMARK BENCHMARK without my GPUs overclocked and received a score of 3335. After that, I ran the same benchmark, but with both GPUs overclocked to 872/1744/4100, and my score went down. Granted, neither scores seemed very impressive after I looked up scores based on similar systems, where their average frames per second surpassed mine with ease.
So, my question is this: what the hell? Are these scores sufficient, or are my expectations just too high? Battlefield 3 runs perfectly, and isn't the issue. I ran the benchmark in order to see the amount of performance increase between their stock values and my first attempt at a GPU overclock, and after seeing the score decrease, I can't be sure if I've done any of this right.
