So, it's been 3 months since this rumor has been started, does anyone think it will be the next CoD? I'm waiting for a confirmation.

Seems like just yesterday MW3 was a rumor :P

I hope its a rumor, cause I hope they take their money and make something called something besides COD that is actually different.

lol, Treyarch.

Anyway, if it's going to be a numbered sequel it's going to be Call of Duty 5.

I didn't care for Black Ops. I liked WaW but Treyarch lost me with BO. I might end up just playing MW3.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Since then, we've had:
CoD: World at War
CoD: Modern Warfare 2
CoD: Black Ops
CoD: MW3

I doubt they'll use the CoD5 moniker as it doesn't apply, or rather, it's already been used for WaW (And yes, there are those of us who called World at War CoD5). If anything, they're at CoD9, as the original poster pointed out.

And why LOL at Treyarch? They made a perfectly great game in World at War, surpassing the original expectations many of us had when we first heard they were doing their first CoD PC title (previously they made the CoD console titles, like Big Red One).

Battlefield 3 = Battlefield 7 and yet no one brings this up. The Modern Warfare series are a self enclosed series and the sequels, with the exclusion of CoD4, are not numbered. Treyarch, outside of Call of Duty 3, isn't responsible for the main series and as such WaW and BO are not number sequels. This also explains the lack of an engine update. So the next IW Call of Duty should be #5.

Treyarch is a company that simply tries to ape whatever Infinity Ward comes up with. They're a parasitic company with no real pretension of innovation or in bringing anything new to the series.

4 years ago I would say:''WOW! More fun!''. Now I'm just: ''OK another CoD.Am I gonna buy it?'' And I feel the answer is gonna be no. But I still love and play CoD 4 and that's because it actually was something different to the CoD series. Now I feel everything is just the same.

Keep arguing that, but CoD: WaW was CoD5 for most of us CoD players. And I find it ironic you're negative attitude towards Treyarch when you can say the same for Activision right now (MW2 vs MW3).

BTW, I didn't see Activision creating the zombie gametype for its series, so I guess that's a +1 for Treyarch. And before you argue it was created for CoD4, it was a player-made mod for CoD4. So by Treyarch building it into WaW, it officially brought something new, refined, and polished into the CoD series.

And about the Battlefield series (made for PC):
Battlefield 1942
BF: Road to Rome
BF: Secret Weapons of WWII
Battlefield: Vietnam
Battlefield 2
BF2: Spec Forces
BF2: Modern Combat
BF2: Euro Forces
BF2: Armored Fury
Battlefield 2142
BF2142: Northern Strike
Battlefield Heroes
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
BF: BC2 Vietnam
Battlefield Online
Battlefield Play4Free
Battlefield 3

So not including the expansions, like Road to Rome, or Euro Forces, we're really on Battlefield 9, unless you discount BF Online and Play4Free, which brings us back to BF 7 as you pointed out. But if you're going to measure it that way, CoD5 is already World at War. Go ahead and google Call of Duty 5 and look what pops up. Image selections of World at War, and World at War reviews. So drop the idea the next CoD game by IW is going to be CoD5 because that's already been used years ago.

Another fact: Call of Duty 3 (which is a numbered sequel) was released on the console by Treyarch, and as such, is recognized as [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-3-Xbox-360/dp/B000G7YRHO"]Call of Duty 3[/ame]. If you plan on discounting that as part of the numbered sequel, then CoD4: modern Warfare is CoD3, forcing your hypothetical CoD5 to really be CoD4.

It wouldn't make sense, but neither did naming GTA 4 after GTA 3.

I call WaW COD 5 as well.

Treyarch at least made a big jump from WaW to Black Ops. Sure some of the perks were from MW2, but at least it actually felt like a completely new game (sounds are the biggest part), unlike MW3. IW just took a two year vacation, going to work every other weekday and now they're back counting their money, just like 2 years ago.

Oh and Nazi Zombies seems to be the most popular thing in the Treyarch games. All the time I hear people not knowing anything about the COD series, but they know what Nazi Zombies are.

Well, in my previous post I did acknowledge that Call of Duty 3 was a Treyarch game. Another thing, Activision owns Treyarch and has been pressuring them, like Infinity Ward, to crank out a CoD every two years. So technically, yes by proxy, Activision did allow Treyarch to make Zombie mode...it's a spin on Gears of War's Hoard mode, but it's still something different from IW, so I'll give them that. I haven't played World at War, so I can't speak to that, but I have played Black Ops and Call of Duty 3...and from my experience they just feel like sub-par products, especially in comparison to Infinity Wards releases.

Calling World at War, CoD 5 is technically true since it was the 5th release in series...if you exclude Big Red One. The issue is that it's not a numbered sequel if there isn't a number. This is pretty fundamental, and it's pretty much is the rule for the video game industry. It's the same reason why neither Halo: ODST or Reach are Halo 4...or why Battlefield: Vietnam wasn't Battlefield 2.

I didn't like Black Ops, the campaign hovered somewhere around mediocre and uninspired. The Multiplayer changed very little from previous iterations, which is a good thing in the whole "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" mentality. Overall it just felt like another rehash of the CoD4 formula.

World at War is definitely one of the better games in the series, Sexy Beast. Don't use Black Ops and CoD3 as the measuring stick for the developer, as WaW is the game they should be measured by (and haven't been attaining in recent releases).

Also, I think GoW Horde Mode came out in GoW2. If so, it predated Treyarch's WaW by just 4 days. So Treyarch copying from GoW2 for their Zombie mode doesn't appear to be the case, at first glance at least. Of course, it Horde mode was in the first GoW (which I cannot remember), then yeah, then it's definitely possible, or likely, Treyarch did look at copying GoW's Horde Mode.

BTW, Big Red One was actually CoD2: Big Red One for the console. Treyarch also made Call of Duty 3, which was only under that name, for the console. So yes, it is a numbered sequel in the Call of Duty series, if only for the console.

I usually judge a company based on more than one game. If the three games that I've played by them, including Quantum of Solace, were mediocre at best then that's pretty damning. They were all AAA releases with tons of cash backing them, there isn't really much of an excuse other than the time constraints that Activision placed on them. Of course this could all change, after the great Infinity Ward Schism of 2009 there were murmurs that Treyarch would take lead in the Call of Duty series.

I was mistaken with Hoard mode.

...and once again I've already acknowledged that Treyach had made Call of Duty 3...which is a numbered sequel.

Aren't they all the same basically? I didn't play WaW.

World at War was set in World War II, Pacific Theater for the United States. So no, it's not the same as MW3, MW2, or Black Ops.

I really liked black ops it was too ugly and the internet connection sucked

No offense, but ur statement is an oxymoron. how can you like a game but call it too ugly & complainin bout the internet connection being crappy?

Also theres another cod game that u guys missed that was on the ps2. It was The Finest Hour (although it was just as popular as Big Red One imho).

Overall, id have to say that CoD2 was the most impressive game in the series to date (of course behind that was CoD4). Everything else since then has been rushed & a waste of time. Also im gonna wait for those 2 games to go down in price before I even consider gettin MW3 or BF3.
