Stealing a tank?

So I'd like to lay out a scenario that happened yesterday in our HC Rush server and I'd like your opinion on it.

I was on offense at Op Firestorm and at the start of the round I jumped into a tank with a sniper class pubber driving. By the time we were about to hit pavement we were on fire. We both bailed, he went behind a rock outcropping to start shooting and I started repairing the tank. During the time I was repairing the tank was still getting hit and the tank sat empty with the sniper nearby, I assume shooting targets. Once the tank was fully repaired, we both jumped in although now I was the driver.

I pulled out and started doing work, he jumped out a few seconds later, near one of the MCOMs. After doing some serious killing solo, I started getting hit with RPGs and was once again on fire. Assuming I had good cover, I started repairing again. Just before I was about to get back in I got teamkilled by my sniper friend that I started out with. Next thing I see is, "That's what you get for stealing my tank."

So, the pub sniper's actions aside, was I in the wrong? I have always felt that if you jump in the drivers seat in a tank and you're not a engineer, you accept the fact that the tank is going to be your coffin since that's more desirable than giving it up to the other team. If I take the time to repair what is essentially an abandoned tank, it's rightfully mine. I wouldn't even care that much if he took it back and I was in the gunners seat, but the first indication that I had that he felt differently was when he TK'd me.

All of this said, I'm not really upset about this. Just a food for thought post.

ur not wrong and i hate when stuff like this happens. TEAMMATES DON"T KILL EACH OTHER, unless u run into their line of fire

Honestly, if he left and you repaired, there's no reason for it, on top of the no-teamkilling rule. I just take tanks that are on fire and repair them for myself too. It'd have been different if you were the sniper and he the engineer, but jeez...

he should be giving you all his money for reparing abandoned and giving him a safe passage to objective.

but i'm guessing he probably wated to take that tank to some highground far away from the objective and then camp from there.

There is no acceptable scenario for Team Killing. You did not 'steal' anything. He was in the wrong.

Actually this has happened to me more on the eGO servers, go figure.

I'll be going for the AA as I like it and will actually shoot planes and not try to cap a flag with it. . .
. . . and I'll get team killed just as I get there and some guy steals it.

Happens all the time. I guess it's what you're supposed to do if you're not first in line . . .

If you leave the tank, don't expect to have it back if someone jumps in.

There is no such thing as "dibs" on tanks.

Ban him immediately.

Both of you were working as a " Team ", I see it as you providing the engineer cover while he was repairing. His back is to the field of fire, that is a sound decison. Let's face it, while you are under fire, there is no time to be doing a " Chinese Fire Drill ". Intentionally killing teammate for any reason is un-acceptable, The players departing comment is inflammatory and very childish. It deserves the W/K/B approach, Swamp.

Tanks are not reserved for anyone. Hopping in a tank while someone got out to repair and driving off is stealing. Taking command of a tank in the heat of the moment is in my opinion not stealing at all. Otherwise it is simply suicide and a waste of a tank.

Simple, intentional TK'ing is not allowed under any circumstances unless you're TK'ing an exploiter or anything of that nature.

If the other player got out to go do some sniping, then that tank is free for anyone to take. If you dont want to lose your tank then dont get out unless you are repairing it.

I'd just respond to the message with:

"Do not intentionally TK players on eGO servers."

Soon as that's done, forget about it and let him die all alone behind a rock next time. People like that aren't worth saving anyways. :)

@Ieye, don't ever ban immediately unless it's blatant racism/hacking. Always w/k/b approach otherwise.

I could see him being angry if you were the sniper and he the engineer and you came out of nowhere to steal the tank right as he finished repairing it. Since this is not the case and the two of you were working as a team and he hoped out and ran behind cover while you repaired it you have every right to take the tank. If he wanted it that badly he should have stayed in it.

And this is why I don't play on HC, if and only if FF is off

as Music said, "Warn, Kick, Ban"

Nope you were in the clear, if he had wanted to drive he should have said something not shoot you.
I have had a similar thing happen except I was solo in a MBT jumped out to repair some one jumped in a drove off leaving me exposed.
