Power needs

With my last thread completely in shambles (some of you may have read it before I deleted everything out of confusion), I have finally figured things out. If not, i'll get you up to speed. Two weeks ago today, my sata ports fried, I don't know how, I don't know why, but they did. Crappy board perhaps? Anyway I need to get new parts: cpu/mobo/ram, got that covered. Also have a case in mind as well. Gonna drop $320 on all of that. Doesn't sound like much, but when you have no job it is :facewall:. So I thought to myself, if i'm already spending money that I pretty much don't have, I might as well go all out, right? First thing that came to mind was another video card. Although I literally just got my 460gtx two weeks ago (coincidence? Yeah my mobo was crappy beforehand anyway), I thought about getting another for SLI. I figure my psu would cover it, but i'm not sure.

Anyway, I've heard lots of answers, yes, no, maybe, and tons of "google it" I just want to know a definite answer.

tl;dr 2 460gtx's in SLI, will 630w cover it?
 
Will be pretty close to the limit from what i just read. Quality 650w should be perfectly fine. I read that with an i7 and SLI 460, guy was pulling around 460w? so it sounds like you should be okay.

Which 460 will you get?
 
Newegg has a powersupply calculator on their power supply section. add about 100 watts to what is says you need to compensate for any other cards and usb devices you have.

If I can find another, then I'll be fine. PNY doesn't specify how their cards work in SLI, which is strange. If I remember correctly, EVGA has stated in the past that if its a 460gtx from them, it will work with any other 460 from them, just the higher clocked card will perform down to the slower card. If PNY follows that rule, then I'll be getting this card

I've used several calculators and each give me varied answers. I've seen answers from 575w to upwards of 800w. I know its better to be on the safe side, but at a point I think they are just trying to make you buy a more expensive product. All in all if I do get another power supply, I'm just going to step up to 730w with raidmax. Their customer service is awesome and I got 3 years warranty with them, just by talking on the phone :) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133428
 
The RX-630S is decent......

For a 400W unit. Outside of that, efficiency, ripple supression and voltage regulation eat it....hard.

I'd suggest something better.

Really, a 400W unit? I've used this power supply loaded with things before and i've never had a problem. Before this I had a high quality 500W and that sucker couldn't power my 8800gt without issues. By the way, I actually meant the RX-630A, not the SS. Either way, this psu will be fine until I actually got the other parts first. Once everything else is out of the way, i'll look for a better PSU, but for now, any suggestions? Take into account future power needs/sli/hard drives/etc.
 
It will do 630w okish, but ripple/efficiency/voltage regulation will probably be almost, or out of spec
