Fake. It's not a question of can someone build a set of wings. Because that has been done before. It's the fact that:
1. Humans are not aerodynamic enough to achieve individual flight. Birds are streamlined in the air and have very little drag while humans have an ungodly amount of drag.
2 (and probably most important). Humans do not have the strength to achieve individual flight. Birds are able to do this by having light, hollow bones. They do not exert themselves trying to fly. Humans do not have the strength needed to overcome gravity enough to get airborne.
It is nice to dream of such things (we've done it for centuries), the closest we can get to flight is with the aide of airplanes.

And the ornithopter those college kids spent about a year building and then had one of them diet and exercise for about a month to get just under the maximum weight yet still strong enough to actually achieve liftoff.

We tried. But to be fair I gave up ten years ago, and almost everyone else at about the same age.
