Suggestions

The reason being that we cannot have quickplay on it due to its mods, and the server will have all non-eGO members kicked from it once or twice a day for events or training or what have you. It is something we can look at trying again though if our other servers are full.

If we do decide to open it up and then our other servers start suffering because people are filling that server first then we will close it again. That being said I will bring it up in Advisor private for review.

Way back over 3 years ago I was on an eGO server. They were having an event so I got kicked. I joined eGO because of this. I wanted to play in the event. Don't know if I would have joined otherwise. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I originally suggested this for Blackmesa, but it ended up going no where, so imma try again.

Im thinking it would be great if theres something like "All Talk fridays" or something, where once a week all the servers, or a select few would just have all talk on. Thats it, it'll just be a great way to relax after a long week of work and stuff. :D

There are exceptions for sure, and it has potential to bring in members. We just don't want to devote time and effort filling a server that isn't very likely to become a hit because everyone is kicked frequently.

Eh, I don't know. As long as you post bulletins and remind everybody that the server is going to have to be privatized every now and then I don't think they'll really care unless they aren't eGO members. Even then, if we play our cards right it shouldn't effect things too much. I look at the server listings and these days there are too few dedicated custom map servers going around. As long as we choose a map everyone likes we shouldn't have any problems getting filled, theoretically.

Advertise some of our events globally on our servers, like say we are having such and such on said day and to look at our forums for more details. People could get interested in the event and come to the forum to look for when the event occurs. After joining the event they might want to join eGO. Also can help remind other members who arent always as active on the forums and shows that our community has events.

A hundred times this. I've played on servers that do it on a Saturday or Sunday and the regular players love it.

I know most comments have been just about the server features, but I want to say something about the direction of the division as a whole. I feel that as a whole, we place too much importance on recruiting and changing servers to get more rank. We should worry more about being a tight-knit fun community than about secondary effects. If a server has very consistent group of regulars its rank will necessarily go up regardless of how unpopular a feature may be. I would even argue that pub regulars are necessary to a server's well-being.

Take Blackmesa for instance. How many other servers actually run 24/7 blackmesa? Yet several months ago it had an amazing rank and population. The server had a cult following that supported it the same way Warpath used to be supported years ago. And people were friendly on those servers. These days, I hardly ever see any chat in-server. Maybe it's all in vent where I can't hear it, but pubs won't hear it either. Our servers are almost completely silent despite being full.

So I would encourage all our members to be more friendly publicly to each other and pubs and start actually building a community that is apparent in-game. I think back to when I still roamed Blackmesa and how many eGOs were running around talking smack and having a great time and compare that to silent Valve Maps today. The two are on completely different levels and I don't think it has to do with map choice. It's an attitude change. To mirror the Admin 101, don't just go into a server with the goal of raising server rank or recruiting, go into a server with the intent to play a fun game.

To further this, I think the occasional all-talk is a wonderful idea.

Make eventsserver BM on Fridays for like 4hours or something until late night fight. -maybe

Real proposition is to change dustfail(Bandon:P) to a 24/7 map that has done well in the past. as tried in the past, a rotation server with maps that have done well in the past does not go well. So, here are some maps that have done well in the past.

Cashworks, Warpath, Turbine, Convoy(wouldnt last long unfortunately), and most importantly-->Blackmesa(who knows?? the scare of it gone will make people play!:))

I think the alltalk thing Noise has suggested, and many others is a great idea. tbh

I suggested all talk for BM on many occasions. It never happened. I don't think all talk is suitable for any other servers because of the competitive aspect, personally I wouldn't like it at all. With all talk there's no team communication which makes it hard to work as a team. BM was perfect for all talk because it was never really a competitive server.

Another suggestion...If noone joins the server, then it will be dropping in rank and replaced by another map...just sayin ;).

There are two things that, in my opinion, are missing. I do not assert that anyone will agree with this, but in my little dream world ...

  1. Transparency. Let those of eGO rank or above look at the books, or a modified version of them. I'm okay with line items like "[$xxx] -- administrative overhead" and not directly questioning it, but if we're to be ardent financial supporters of the community, I want to know where my money is going. This could work very well if, as has been suggested by members of this community, individual members who have the means want to sponsor a server. (cough, cough, Blackmesa) That's scary territory for those who manage the books, and I realize there may be legal complications there, but ... it's my little dream, so there it is.
  2. I would also love to see one server designated as a community server, and some lucky adivsor gets the task -- on a quarterly or semi-annual basis -- of holding a vote to determine the attributes (map, alltalk, plugins, etc) of that server. Once the vote is concluded, the server is frozen until the next vote cycle is concluded. I can see this becoming a very exciting event for the community, and one that would cause a lot of outside interest. (YouTube videos announcing the next server choice and attributes, press releases, etc.)

EDIT: I don't think I explained the server sponsorship thing completely enough. Here's how it would work. An individual (or group) can pony up, in advance, the hosting and administrative fees for an individual server for six months or a year. They then get the benefit of having the MOTD on the server mention their sponsorship, and they can decide (on a predetermined basis-- quarterly perhaps) what changes, if any, are made on the server. The eGO organization doesn't loose money on it, and community members who are willing to put their money where their mouth is can have Blackmesa, Warpath, or some crazy melee server if they so desire while also sharing the advantages of the reputation (and outstanding administration) eGO has associated with it.

So, those are my thoughts. I've been pretty pissy around here lately, and I want to apologize for that. It's not who I try to be. Here's hoping this is positively received.

I think eGO servers should have !bp. So people can trade and you can look at people's S. stoof. :P

For those who want the events server opened: We tried this when I was an Advisor and it didn't really work. The server had some traffic but just when it was filling up, we'd have to close it for an event. Doesn't really keep people from not coming back.

As for the Dustbowl server: I'd love to see Turbine. I've been told in the past that it's a server killer, which I don't believe. I've seen several Turbine servers that are full, even during the day.

Turbine is only a server killer depending on the amount of facerolling and spawn camping there is. I think turning off crits on cap and making spawn camping a stigma among members would make the server work well. The problem is if you have a heavy vent camping and he's getting kritz from the scout who's capping every minute because nobody can get out of spawn, and then you tack on a couple medics and suddenly you have an empty server. It's absolutely offensive to me when I see members doing this crap, but since it's okay in Mesa it must be okay in Turbine. We had a post about how to make sure you don't steamroll, simply because that makes your servers terrible and nobody wants to play in them, regardless of map or feature.

It makes me rage so hard when I see members doing something like this that is so obviously detrimental to the quality of gaming in the server.

Spawn camping is a part of every map...LOL.

Dont turn krits off, instead shorten the amount of time that you can use kritz.

Just because it's possible doesn't mean it is necessarily as pervasive as in Mesa or Turbine. Turbine has one spawn that doesn't move, and both exits are right next to each other. Where other maps may see one or two people tops sitting next to a spawn, turbine and Mesa are unique in that entire teams will be able to consistently spawn-camp for extended periods of time.

It's sickening that you think spawn camping on that level isn't a problem for servers.
