Has anyone heard of this? Apparently it's a relatively new virus, and my friend is having a devil of a time trying to get rid of it. I'm looking for solutions online, but I'm wary because there are some infected websites that can give it to you just by going to it. He's already tried AVG Anti Virus, webroot, and a system restore. I heard Symantec has a solution, but I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

My friend had a virus similar to this and after trying his system restores he decided the best way was to reformat everything, luckily this worked but doesn't always.

Just so we are all on the same page, what kind of symptoms is he getting?
I strongly advise going to BleepingComputer.com (this is the Google Search results, but click on one of the second results that go to Bleeping Computer). You can browse through some of the issues users are reporting with the same thing your buddy is having. Creating an account then starting a new thread for your issue will get quick responses from the fellas on there. They REALLY know their stuff about malware and will direct you to the best method of remediation depending on the symptoms.
The bad thing about trying system restores in Windows, occasionally the malware will nest itself IN the restore data on the volume and when an anti-virus scans, those files are sometimes omitted during a scan, taken for granted they are safe. *** disclaimer: This may not be the case for all anti-virus/anti-malware.***

Something that could be benificial for him to run in the mean time, is this:
Download THIS and save to a flash drive. (This is an easy to use tool that kills known processes that stop the use of normal anti-malware applications.) Then download and install Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware on the affected machine. If you cannot install when you are booting normally, no problem, just do it during the next step, in Safe Mode.
Boot your machine into safe mode with networking. (Press F8 once per second right after powering up. You will see a screen with a number of options, white text on a black background, this is where you choose Safe w/networking then hit 'Enter'.)
Once you are on the desktop, click the first file you downloaded to the flash drive. A DOS window will show up, just let it do its thing, it will appear to be doing nothing as it runs, but it is. When complete it will indicate as such and you can close it.
Next you will want to run Malwarebytes. If you were unable to install it in normal mode, install it now.
***This is Key***When done, click the tab 'Update'. once it is completely updated, then click the 'Scan' tab and chose 'Full Scan' of your C: or primary drive.
