hi guys,

I've been thinking to go buy or order myself a joystick soon to make the flying easier (cause yeah flying sucks whit a mouse :p).
I Was wondering what are you guys using to fly the jets and stuffs? and what would you recommend to me?
I want best deal price/quality (the cheaper the better though :p)

im just using my keyboard for jets and choppers. works best for me so i cant rly give you a word of advice about joysticks.

I know last I heard (which was a couple months ago), the joystick support for BF3 was garbage. They didn't have it set up correctly so what you basically had to do was bind the movements on the joystick to the arrow keys and WASD, making it somewhat difficult to use because you couldn't make minor adjustments, it was all or nothing. I read a lot of people way that they would use the joystick for getting behind someone, and then actually switch to the mouse to shoot them down because the joystick would be too sensitive to actually aim to hit anything, especially something that's flying and trying to not be hit. It also creates quite a large deadzone (about 60 degrees) in the middle where it didn't do anything until you pushed it past it and then it would turn as if you hit the arrow keys.

This could have been fixed, but I know I read a lot of stuff that talked about how it's not worth it right now until EA adds proper joystick support like they had in the other BF games.

Well, I currently use an Xbox 360 controller for flying jets/choppers. Took some getting used to with re-mapping binds and all, but it's do-able.

I haven't configured it for BF3 yet, but the joystick I use for more serious flight sims is...

mouse and keyboard still work fine, the joystick is not that great for i have tried it in bf3. IMO i would save your money on something else.

I have the Logitech Attack 3, but because of the mapping system I don't ever use it.

yeah I tried using a joystick for BF2 and once again for the BC2 you have to manually map most everything... in the end it was easier to use mouse and keyboard then make the joystick work right.

I currently use a PS3 controller for flying Jets. All you have to do is hook it up using the charging cable you are supplied with it and use this websites program called MotionJoy and set the binds up. I set it up as Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and I fly pretty well, well enough that my turns are too sharp now lol.

As for choppers I suggest you use the keyboard and mouse because it doesn't require much finesse in the air and it's easier to aim with a mouse than a joystick.

I use a Cyborg F.L.Y.5 which worked well untill a solder joint came loose(according to tech support) and now it will only yaw right half speed untill I unplug and replug it in. It is on its way for replacement so, I taught myself how to use the mouse and keyboard. MUCH more precise I tell ya. Find a 1 player start air map with no one on it and practice. I reverse the up/down mappings and put yaw on the mouse and roll on the A and D keys.

Personally I consider using a Keyboard + Mouse best for flying jets. I have 4 service stars in them so I have been used to the layout by now, but for Helicopters, other people prefer Keyboard + Mouse as well, and it isn't just me.

For the helicopters i've been using my mouse so far and i am pritty used to it, the jets are a problem i was thinking off putting my mouse sensitive up, but then it would affect my shooting to which i rather not see happen, i heard about the problems whit bf3 for a joystick but i've found some articles to bypass that couple off days ago so i think its managable.
@ koshachey i'll look into that model ;) ty

suppose i would stall my purchase off a joystick giving the issues^^
what set-up using mouse/keyboard do you guys think is efficient?

This is the controller I've used since day 1 back in October. Never had to bind the movements to WASD or anything stupid like that. Works great.

EDIT - It did not work during the beta whenever I had the chance to get into a Caspian game, but that was the beta. Since full release it's worked fine.
