Fans of the Monster Hunter series may have noticed a game came out last year for the 3DS titled "Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G" in Japan.
Well, GUESS WHAT.
It's coming to the West, as well as an HD version on the Wii U, under the title (as you may have guessed) "Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate." You will be able to transfer your save data between the two versions of the game, play online on the Wii U version, and play local multiplayer between both versions.

For those who don't know, the Monster Hunter series is an Action-RPG series in which you accept quests from the village in which you live and go on hunts in different areas fighting different monsters depending on which quest you went on. Each monster you hunt gives you materials which you can use to build better, more specialized armor and weapons, which allow you to eventually take on monsters the size of mountains, then bigger.
Materials are also obtained from gathering and mining and such in certain areas and from your farm which you can go to in between missions.

This is also the first Monster Hunter game to come to the West since Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii almost two and a half years ago. It will come out sometime in March.

Also, Wii U is coming out November 18 in the US, November 30 in Europe, and December 8 in Japan at an initial price of $300 USD for the standard version with 8GB internal memory, $350 USD for the version with 32GB internal memory.

Fun fact.
The Xbox 360's starting price was $400, $300 for the version that had no hard drive. It had no fancy, advanced touchscreen tablet controller, either. And nobody complained.

Also in my OP, $450 was a typo. I meant $350. Ooooops.

Implying i bought the xbox 360 for that much money. And the starting price you are talking about is with 160 HD, Controller, and a duo game bundle idk what xbox you where looking at but you where getting ripped off lol. That and the original wii had very few games that where worth play to be honest.

That and 32 gb hard drive is horrible when you have to DL games with it.

Yes, you waited for the Xbox 360's price to drop. Well guess what. These are launch prices for the Wii U. Not prices that are definite for all time.

Either way, this is not a Wii U thread.
This is a Monster Hunter thread.
And in a Monster Hunter thread, I would prefer to hear from people who are as excited by this news as I am, or at the very least, people mildly interested.

Well, it's coming out on 3DS, too, if that's any consolation :V

im not going to buy the wii u but 300 isn't that bad of a price, the last gen consoles were all 400+ when they launched.

Ranthus, we're going to have to fight to keep this on topic lol.

I am GEEKED about this. I was late to the Monster Hunter party, my first one being Tri on the Wii. I remember finding out about it, and when I checked it out it looked right up my alley. I pre-ordered for the Wii and even got lucky with a classic controller pro. I even got a demo of the game letting you fight the first two monsters and had a blast with it, even if there was so much about it I didn't understand.

I got the game and loved it. I even went back and bought Monster Hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP because I wanted more. Earlier this year I imported Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (the latest release on a system I had) because I got tired of waiting to see if it was coming to the United States or not. Had to use translation websites to figure out a lot of what I was doing but it has been worth it, as the game plays very fluid.

I want to see this game series more successful in the West. It is such a treasure. The problem is it is so unlike anything we have. I don't want to say that Western gaming is dumber because I don't think that, but a lot of the "mainstream" games are hard and fast action; an entirely different play style. Because of that, it's a different market. COD is huge in America because it puts you right in fast paced action and it is accessible. Everyone loves it. The popularity of Monster Hunter in Japan and China is akin to the popularity of COD in America. It really illustrates the differences in our gamer cultures. I don't think that's a bad thing or prefer one over the other, it is just interesting how different they are.

Monster Hunter is a game that requires patience. You can't just go head to head with the monster and trade blows. You'll get knocked on your butt so fast it's not even funny. You have to learn the monster's movements and attacks. You have to learn how to dodge. It's not knowing how to hit, it's knowing when to hit. You have to work and (sometimes) grind for everything you want. You want better weapons and armor? You have to fight the monsters and gather the materials yourself.

It is a great series, and for people who give it the time and really play it the vast majority end up loving it. Capcom and Nintendo have been very deliberate in what system they release new titles on, ensuring both the game and the new console's success in Japan and China. We scoff at the marketing because the game isn't our cup of tea, but like it or not it is a brilliant move.

Admittedly, bringing that marketing strategy to the West is a test for even the truest of Monster Hunter fans. Many don't like it.

For me, I have been dead set that I'm not getting a Wii U or a 3DS. There was only one thing that would make me reconsider, and this was it. Well played, Nintendo/Capcom. I love and hate you right now.

Honestly
I just need this game to be here already
Right now

This. This. Yes this.

In looking at the Wii U as the preferred way to play it, I'm thinking the Deluxe version will be the best purchase, but if I read right pre-orders at Gamestop are already sold out.

I might check to see if I can pre-order at a few other places but if not I am thinking I will have to settle for the 3DS version.

Absolutely love the cross-play and memory transfer ability. A genius move!
