After the upteenth blackout in our neighborhood a few days ago, the power supply unit in my PC blew and I had to replace it.

Seriously thinking of getting a UPS/battery backup for my PC and my wife's Mac now. Any recommendations out there?

I have been looking around for one myself. Heard pretty good things about APC. All I know is, if you are gonna spend money on one, don't go cheap with it.

Skippy, I use the APC Back-UPS XS 1500, and just replaced the batterys in it.
It's an older model however they still sell the 1500's and it will keep 2 comps, 2 monitors, and the cable modem on for like 2 hours++ with no outside power.
I hope this helps you decide.

Here's what I have:

One of the wisest purchases I've ever made. CyberPower makes very affordable UPS units. Just make sure you pick the product that has the wattage capacity you need.

+1 to this, we had a power outage for 3 hours here today and the UPS did a nice soft shutdown of my computer when it lost AC power. Probably one of the best units on the market.

What are you running in your computers? I can't get more than 23 minutes with a 24" monitor, 1 computer, modem, switch, router/firewall, and a fan (cools down the network stuff).

2 Computers, Motorola Exteme combo surfboard router/modem. I had a local battery store build the 2 replacement battery's and the run time on them was quadrupled, now the 2 hours that I listed is what the software says is left on the battery's so it might not be that long.
