Low FPS

Alright, this has been getting worse and worse.
I use to get around 120-130 FPS in CS:S (or any source game), but now i get a max of 60.
I've updated my drivers, Checked for fps cap, even fully re-installed the drivers, but its still low.
Anyone have any ideas?

Laptop
NVidia GeForce GT540M Cuda
Intel i7-2760QM
Windows 7 Home Premium - 64Bit
4 GB Ram
600 GB HDD

I'm not exactly sure if this will help or not but I remember seing something in source engine options that will make the game utilize all your cores, instead of being all on one, if I remember right. Maybe check in advanced and see if that help.

Since you have update all your drivers you shouldn't be getting any problems.
However, you can check your DirectX settings, maybe that'll fix it. The DirectX settings sometimes cause your fps to go low sometimes as it did for me before.
Other than that, it may be the programs you were opening currently which took up the memory but I really doubt that was the case.
One question, does it happen when there's a lot of people or does it happen even when the server is empty?

Even when the server is empty.
And that i'm not sure about the using all cores. It should already be doing that.
I have the max performance for all 4 cores set to 100% so there should be no limit.
It does not even use more than 20% when i look in task manager.

Have your rates been changed?

fps_max "300"
cl_cmdrate "100"
cl_updaterate "100"

Make sure the fps_max has not been changed, that is very common.

It could be the engine entirely itself, steam always do wacky updates and some certain people always get the unlucky end part of it. As dream posted earlier.

reset your modem. unplug it for 15-20 seconds...plug it in.. let it reconnect
The connection speed will have no effect on my graphics performance.
Plus, I don't have a modem.

This may have something to do with it, I believe i changed one of these a while back.
I'll let you know.

So after enabling multi core rendering, and resting the settings Nate said, I now get about 90 fps. Almost there.

From the website I've give you, here are the commands which may benefit you. However it's for testing purposes only so use it at your own risk.

rate 83160 - but on the other hand, some developers that definitely know what theyre talking about recommend not more than 30000

net_compresspackets 1/0 - compressed packets are smaller and hence get processed faster; however the compression itself also takes time. i really dont know what to set here. try both.

net_compresspackets_minsize - only applicable if above is set to 1; packets above this size get compressed; again, no idea what optimal value there could be, see above regarding compression

net_maxfragments 1260
net_maxroutable 1260 - requested max packet size before packets are 'split'; setting both to the equal max value makes packets only get split when they get congested, ie. become bigger than the maximum size for one packet, i think.

net_splitrate - number of splitpackets; no idea on any possible "optimal" value, but i think the more splitpackets you allow, the better you may handle situations with lots of data arriving within a short time that has to be processed. try around with single-digit values and upwards to 100 & 1000.

net_splitpacket_maxrate - rate at wich splitpacket chunks get queued; i would say half of your rate value would be a good one to start testing, then increase it further

Again they may help or they may not.

Maybe anti-aliasing? I know that sucks up a bunch of fps

Agreed. Check your video settings. When it comes to that, people overlook it a lot. Motion Blur should be turned off, as it is pretty much useless, most of the time.

HDR - High Dynamic Range. In lamens terms, it makes the map brighter if it is sunny, darker if it is rainy, and is affected by light(Don't quote me on that).

I recommend playing with console commands, like Dr3am has posted above.
