Today I have been having problems with DoD:S, Once I join a server after a few minutes the screen lags.. While the warning for auto disconnect pops up and counts down, but it only last about 10sec approximately, then continues as if normal. But it does this every few minutes.

After it comes back in console I have this error pop up after every time it goes into auto disconnect : Error reading weapon data file for: weapon_ifm_steadycam

So I updated my security program : Microsoft Security Essentials, then ran a complete scan of my computer. Found something and removed it. But its still doing the same thing. Also I reset my router and restarted my computer and still the same issue.

Also did a speed test and my internet seems to be fine.

So what can I do to fix this?

Did a search for it, found this post in the Steam forums

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=857831

To my knowledge , its a left over from beta DODS test
It does no harm
The only set back is that on some servers with sv_pure 1 and a whitelist that kicks any "script" file, he will get booted every time
He can safely delete it from the script folder

C:Program FilesSteamsteamappsyouraccountday of defeat sourcedodscripts

I just renamed it to see if the game would still run without it.
XXXXweapon_ifm_steadycam.txt

The only time it "blocked" me from joining a server was when trying to log onto the 506th. They have a whitelist that blocks any extra scripts(*.txt) files in an attempt to prevent scripting exploits.

Along with the above 2 replies (And the Steam convo we had) -

Did some further digging on the error - found some useful links:

A list of possible solutions, in no particular order, I've found (some of which you might/might not have already tried or have already been suggested), as well as partially quoted/copy-pasted from the above links
  • -Re-install DODS
  • -Check for Video/Graphics updates
  • -Verify game files
  • -defragging local files
  • -record a demo for a few seconds, stop the demo
  • -check your steamprofile/dod/scripts folder for the file, delete it
  • -reset the Graphic Card's Control Panel back to normal(Application Controlled .. instead of Force X4 Anti Aliasing and crap for some reason it would default to that every-time.)
  • Download the models individually and place them in your dod/models folder. The textures that come with them would be placed in your dod/materials/models folder.
  • -Find a server with sv_pure 1 enabled (Realism servers normally have this (although come to think of it, you could also ask Lung or one of the DL's if they could set the Events server to sv_pure 1 for you to test this, then reset it back to sv_pure 0), that'll strip away all your custom stuff. If you don't get the error, you've found the problem, follow steps above.
