Friday Night Magic

So I've been coerced into hosting a Friday Night Magic game at my house on Friday evenings. For those who don't know, Magic: The Gathering is a trading card game that was popular 20 some years ago, drawing the nerd-folken much like the Dungeons & Dragons craze brought our brethren to late night card tables bearing funions and mountain dew. That's not to say it's not still popular, boasting millions of players to this day.

Anyway, so I've dusted my cards off, and have been touched with a sense of nostalgia. I'm curious, does anyone else still play? Does anyone else have a collection forgotten under their bed or hidden away a closet corner, waiting like the One-Ring to once again be found and wreck terror on your discretionary income? Since this may become a regular thing within my circle, I may need to start expanding my collection. If anyone has any unwanted collections, I may be able to buy/trade them off of you, with money, items, digital currency. Just drop me a line and we can works something out.

Also, if anyone is local (Delaware, East Coast USA) and wants to play or learn to play, you're welcome to my table. I have a couple spare rooms/beds, so lodging can be arranged for you wayfarers. Or if anyone has any ideas on streaming-in via webcams/skype let me know.

circle of protection deck. no jk, it's been quite a long time since I've played magic, and I've never played it well. I know I have a deck somewhere, but it languishes away hidden.

I remember this card game. I didn't know how to play it but heard it was fun. I also know that there was a card you could rip up and throw and each piece of the card that hit something removed that object from play for the entire game.

The deck I always use first is a Sliver deck. For those who don't know, Sliver decks are banned universally in tournaments because they're so overpowered. I went out of my way to get old cards from before they stopped producing Slivers in the newer series. If someone is good enough to counter my Sliver deck or I'm teaching someone to play or just don't feel like using it, I play with an Artifact deck mostly based around Mirrodin and Scars of Mirrodin series creatures. I love me some artifacts. I also have a newer Eldrazi deck with Emrakul, The Aeons Torn in it. I like him. Other less notable decks include my red Elemental/Destruction deck based around Chandra Nalaar and my Naya deck.

Oh, and I just bought a Gatecrash fat pack a couple days ago and have no idea what to build with it because I have no pre-existing guild decks.

You guys talk about magic the gathering

and I am just sitting here playing with my pokemon cards

I started playing. Magic a couple of years ago and I got hooked. The only problem with it is it is really an expensive hobby. For the two years I've spent over 750 dollars easily. XD I normally don't do Friday night magic but I always attend the prereleases.

Shoot, that's crazy. I was flabbergasted that I spent 20 dollars on buying my first white deck off of someone in high school, so I had to cobble together random scrounged cards after that haha.

I might have exaggerated a bit, maybe around 300-400 now that i think of it, but the overall card values i have are around 750 themselves

Ive been trying to cut back and not spend as much, but its really hard to do. the temptation to buy just one pack everytime you go to the store sucks, and it really adds up.
