Is anyone else going through this problem?

Until recently, my Team Fortress 2 has been working perfectly, but all of a sudden, it starts crashing my entire computer at random times, forcing me to restart my pc and validate source files again, taking me from around 15 minutes to half an hour just to play TF2 again. This is the only source game that this is happening to me in. I have a nvidia geforce gtx 680m video card, 4 gb ram, intel core i7 processor, and a bunch of other decent specs, I could go on for a while, but I don't think it's the specs, though I could be wrong. I had custom skins, sounds, and even a lightwarp installed, but when I disabled them, the crashing didn't go away. I also play tf2 with DX 95. I'm wondering if anyone has been having these problems too and if someone may know how to fix this, it's been getting really annoying.

I really can't think of anything. Maybe it'll work if you restart your computer? (lol)

I don't have this problem, so your two choices are either a) reinstall, or b) wait for the next update and see if that fixes it.

It is a more common problem then you think. Would you by chance be getting an error stating that your graphics card has crashed? Team Fortress 2 is notorious for that.

Are you getting any error messages? Does this happen while starting TF2, joining a server, in the middle of game play or all the above?

Check your event viewer & look for any error or warning messages.
Best thing to do would be to try and start up TF2, note the time. And then look for a error or message in event viewer that matches that time.

could try :

Turn off cloud sync in Steam:settings
Restart Steam
Turn cloud sync back on
Restart Steam and start Tf2
Validate & defrag files for TF2 on Steam

It's actually not just TF2 crashing, my entire pc crashes, oh, I forgot, it also repeats the last sounds that are playing in a very fast and infinate loop, while it's like this, the screen is black and there is no possible way of getting out. Force shut down is all that works.

Try installing Speccy, i had problems with TF2 making my computer shutoff when I was playing because it was overheating to around 30 degrees celsius. It could be the same problem with you so dl that and check your temps during play and not in play. I had to get my motherboard replaced, but it was for free.

30c is stellar temps. I think you're talking about 90c+ temps there. My machine idles at around 30c for everything, and I hit 60c @ max under load.

But it very could be your machine is overheating. HWMonitor is a good one as well, I like it more than Speccy.

As VP has said above me speccy isn't very accurate with its temperature readings most of the time, personally I recommend speedfan.

Then let me repeat myself;
Check your event viewer & look for any errors or warning messages.
If you machine is crashing then it should be reporting errors & messages in your event viewer. And those errors & messages can tend to help take the "guess" work out of issues.

oooh, I get you.

It actually not your computer crashing, it's HL2.exe feeling queasy. The sound loop is especially annoying. The black screen you see should eventually go away after some 5-10 minutes at most, so I usually just wait it out.

My pc has a cooling pad because it's a gaming laptop. The temp is fine, so that rules out overheating, I used the event viewer, and there are recorded errors at the times of crashes. But the messeges are just generic, telling me that something crashed or the battery died, no specifications. It might be just HL2 being weird, but when it gets to that state, I can't even abort to the desktop, which conserns me.

i get this problem all the time. my solution: never turn off my laptop. or steam. that way, once tf2 validates once, it doesnt have to again until i turn off steam for some reason. while that may sound really bad for a computer and probably is, it works and i love it
