Need a Mentor

Hey guys,

Me and my buddy honkeedonkee are planning on making a garrys mod server. Not a server for just me and him, we are talking a server with up to thirty two people in it.

Of course this isnt going to happen in an hour, or maybe even a day.

So if one of you could be kind enough to get in vent, skype or whatever and lead us through the server making process and how to start one up (map, players, ingame item shop, admin commands) we would gladly appreciate it and we would give you all benefits whenever you join our server.

Anyone who mentors us into creating a full and finished server will get ALL privileges as if they were a server owner.

Go ahead and ask the questions here. I wont mind answering any of them that you have. I just dont have time to set up the entire server for you and your friends.

Server is up. Heres the problems.

Workshop.vdf is not installing the addons on the server.

My server is unable to be connected to by other players.

I don't know about the workshop.vdf bit, but I have a feeling that others can't connect to your server because you haven't forwarded the ports for your computer on the router. Doing so differs for every router, but this website has tutorials for most routers. They sell a program to do it for you but it's not worth the money, so just close out of the add when it pops up. For the application name, select Half Life 2 server.

You'll want to open ports 27015 and 27005 for both TCP and UDP.

Port forwarding can be one issue but it can be an even bigger issue if you port your internet and make it less secured. Meaning if someone hacks your server they can potentially get into your internet info and grab the IP directly through gmod. Believe me. Its happened to a friend.

As for the workshop, Do you have any other mods installed? If so I would like a list to make sure you dont have anything conflicting with anything. Also, Your spacing is off in the following lines of code -

You have them one space more before the forward slash.

From the looks of it you must have pressed tab unless that was a mistake on my part and that your spacing is fine.

EDIT:

Weird. When I was looking at it through the post thing it showed your spaces were messed up with the coding. Maybe its just the forums messing it up. I would still like the list of any mods installed though and your server settings (as in access commands and such)


EDIT 2:

Just derped again. Go ahead and do the port forwarding. I didnt know if you were running off a 3rd party program to host it like hamachi or something. But you still have the risks of forwarding.
