A way to monitor my temp

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop and it shuts down randomly. So I want to check my temperature to see if there is a problem. So do you guys know of a good program that will allow me to do so?

Why am I doing this? Cause I'm to broke to actually by a laptop that won't shut off on me. And can you guys recommend a good laptop for me?

Well, it's really not very hard to check your temperature.

But I'm not sure what that has to do with your monitor over heating.

I've used Core Temp since my friend showed it to me. I went a while without cleaning out my PC and when my system was running idle my processor was up to 96 degrees Celsius! After cleaning it out and running games for a while I found I didn't go over abour 55-60 degrees, what a massive difference.

It depends on if the hardware has the capability of reporting temperature. Not always a necessary component in laptops these days.

I'll give you an update guys, It is indeed true that my laptop shuts off randomly, but I beleive it not due to the temperature.
The reason why my laptop shuts down like every 15 minuets is because of 2 games. These games are Poker night at the Inventory and Poker Night 2.
For reason beyond me I have no idea why my computer cannot handle these games, Norton would give me a message saying that it is taking too much of my processes, before my computer goes blank.(Note: MY computer can run TF2, and Skyrim with zero lag).
So do you guys no of a way that I can reduce the process of this game or do I have a different problem?

If you open task manager, you can right click a process (the exe of the game) and lower the priority. This may not have any effect, however.

Speedfan is very good for monitoring temps.

I recommend (as mentioned above) CoreTemp or CPUID HWMonitor. I personally use CoreTemp as it has a plugin for my G15 keyboard so I can always see temps when I wish without having to look at the system tray. Let me know if you need any help setting CoreTemp up should you choose to use it.

CoreTemp is more for observing CPU core temperatures and CPUID HWMonitor displays more information than just the core temperatures of your CPU. HWMonitor will display voltages along with the lowest, highest and current temperatures for your entire system. This includes information for your motherboard, CPU, RAM, video, etc. What information you want to observe will determine which program you should use.
