This post is how to idle by running CSS in text mode. Textmode requires less resources then running it in full mode, allowing people with lower end computers to idle in the servers.

Option 1 (Recommended)
Windows
  1. Download the installer
  2. Double-click on the installer you just downloaded and follow the steps.
  3. Double-click the Desktop icon or the Start Menu icon to start the Idling tool.
  4. Select the game you want to idle on.
  5. Select a server to idle on.
  6. TADA now you are idling.

Mac
  1. Download the tool
  2. If you're not using Safari, unzip the downloaded zip file
  3. If you like, copy the application into your Applications folder or anywhere else on your computer
  4. Open the application
  5. Click buttons
  6. Send oey192 a PM if anything doesn't work.

The Mac version works for TF2, DOD:S, CS:S, CS:GO


Option 2 (Advanced)
How to set Launch Options:
  1. Go into your steam library
  2. Right-click Counter-Strike: Source and click Proprieties
  3. Click the button Set Launch Options
  4. Enter the desired Launch Options in the box.

Launch Options:
Code: 
-textmode -nosound -nopreload +connect 184.173.227.125:27015

Explanations:

  • Code: 
    -textmode
  • Makes CSS load into a console instead of a full window. This will use less resources then running CSS in full mode.

    Code: 
    -nosound
  • Even when running in console there still is sound, use this to turn sound off.

    Code: 
    -nopreload
  • Doesn't preload game resources, increases launch time in textmode.

    Code: 
    +connect serverip
  • When CSS is started in textmode without this flag it will not join a server.
Server IP's
DUST2
IP: 174.36.42.204:27015

OFFICE
IP: 174.36.42.205:27015

JAIL
IP: 184.173.227.125:27015

ITALY
IP: 184.173.227.127:27015

DUST
IP: 184.173.227.126:27015

HIGHSCHOOL
IP: 184.173.227.124:27015

To go back to the normal CSS just remove all these launch options.
 
Well, you can idle in text mode and help support our servers!

Why do it? Because it uses minimal computer resources and allows you to seed our servers and in turn help our server numbers!

Well, maybe, but it wouldn't look good for us if we had 10 idlers and no actual players - the preference would be to actually be there I'd imagine :)

Wasn't there a general guideline about having no more than two spectator idlers at any one time?
 
Lets fill jail with 39 idlers in spec so only one person can join.
 
I agree with NM Sniper...I'll just end up playing instead of idling. This is a brilliant idea though. Would be good for an admin who is busy in school or work and wants to access the server from a laptop.
 
Im idleing i HS right now... its actually a nice little feature.
