I'm on my 5th headset, and its all about strategically placing the cord in a safe spot so that your chair, arm, neck, or any other movable item in the room can't yank it off your desk / head. You could just buy a crappy Wal-Mart headset for the time being. As long as you don't sound like UReadMyName's mini turret going off I'm cool with it.

my first headset had a 10ft cable so it always got snagged and hit the ground hard. I had a webcam with a mic and that broke after it dropped a few times.
