My goal: To be able to play a variety of music in my backyard.
My current set up:
1. Computer with wireless internet (cable, 50mb download) located at the rear of the house (near the backyard).
2. Flatscreen (not smart) TV connected to cable box (with music channels)and Bose 123 System (receiver plus DVD), plus Wii connected wirelessly, also located in the back of the house.
3. A third storage room with electricity where I can place equipment.
My request: comments and suggestions with how to resolve this and any tech issues I may face. Note that I am not particularly interested in smartphone/Ipod solutions, although ability to connect to these would be a slight benefit (i.e., not my main source of music). However, I am willing to put music on a thumb drive (I have a 16mb one available).
What I have considered:
1. Low tech: Buy a receiver/CD player to go in a third back room and wire to Bose Outdoor speakers. On the plus side it will be completely separate from my TV and computer adventures. Downside, some hassle installing, cost approx $400.
2. High tech: Buy a Blu Ray DVD player with wifi or otherwise connect to my Bose 123 system and TV so I can play cable music and cds. My question here is will Blue Ray help and how do I get the music outside? Do i have to connect outdoor speakers with wires? Or is there a wireless solution? Other than Blue Ray any other cable options. Please note that the Bose system has a special plug and I am also interested in being able to watch TV while the music is playing. I assume some sort of splitter is necessary. Cost of BlueRay and wired outdoor speakers is about $350).
3. Higher tech: Buy a Sonos wireless speaker with bridge to attach to my computer. I am not sure exactly how this works and what effect this will have. However, my understanding is that I can then play any music on my hard drive, a CD, or internet radio. Cost approx $500. Are my assumptions here correct? Is this the easiest rout to take? How does it sound?
I would appreciate any additional suggestions, possible conflicts, concerns and which system would work the best. I would rather pay more for a better solution, within reason. Thanks in advance.
BTW, we are now using an ipod connected portable speaker, which we do not like, so this solution is not a real option.
