So as I drive my tank around the corner of the building I have to ask myself: Did I just enter into someone else's sights? On Donner I may have made it behind the bike shed to resupply the MG, but is there a rocket poking around the corner by the dark room? On Auraxis I never really worry about the fact that I've never actually landed my Terran Republic Liberator. I know it's a toss up as to whether the New Conglomerate or the Vanu Sovereignty will take me out. But with all of these opportunities for death and mayhem I sit here safe behind the keyboard. Even in my car I am fairly safe. Airbags and seat belts guard my life. The car itself is designed to crumple and absorb impacts. I am safe.
A small person running out into the street has none of these advantages. They will crumple and the blood will not be reusable pixels. What keeps them safe? I shall.

For this months Meet the Leadership article, I am happy to announce the participation of two members of leadership, TF2's Event Coordinator Advisors, Sephiroth and Fullmetal.

So please enjoy the questions that I have asked these fine gentlemen to answer, for you, the EdgeGamers community.


Q) What position do you hold within the TF2 Leadership team?

Sephiroth: I am the TF2 EC (Event Coordinator) Advisor along with Fullmetal.

Fullmetal: I am the Event Coordinator along with Sephiroth.

Q) Why TF2?

Sephiroth: I don't really know, from the first time I played TF2 I was hooked. I guess it's just that good of a game.

Fullmetal: I remember originally buying the Orange Box and hating TF2 because it had such a steep learning curve, so I played CS:S for about 2 years. Then I gave TF2 another shot and found it much easier to pick up.
Funny thing about the division; I may have originally joined the TF2 division, but I did move to CS:S at one point for a few months, but I seemed to like the player interactions within TF2 a bit better than CS:S so I came back.

Q) If you could be one person for a day, who would it be and why?

Sephiroth: I already am everyone as well as no one, so why would I want to be someone else?

Fullmetal: Being someone for a day wouldn't make sense, as I would be myself in another body. Being someone else would be no different from a normal day in my life.
If I could spend a day with any one person, it would be Saber. The sane answer would be because she's the female embodiment of the King Arthur legend. If you want my real answer, find me in Vent and I'll explain.

Q) What is your most prized possession in the world of TF2?

Sephiroth: I don't really consider any of my items to be prize possessions, but if I had to pick one it would probably be my "Sir Hootsalot" (the owl for the sniper), that thing has saved my ass too many times to count.

Fullmetal: I don't have any prized possessions within the game, but if I had to choose one I would go with my strange bat. It crits about as much as the pan and has made Kazoo rage on multiple occasions.

Q) Now, how has becoming TF2 Advisors changed your outlook on the eGO community?

Sephiroth: It hasn't, the only thing that's really changed is the fact that now I get to know what goes on behind closed doors.

Fullmetal: Since becoming an Advisor, my overall outlook hasn't changed much. All that's different is that I now get to see some of what goes on behind the scenes and all the hard work that the previous EC Advisor had to go through and do on a daily/weekly basis.

Q) Have you guys planned any new events for the TF2 that you'd like to share with us?

Sephiroth: If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

Fullmetal: We tried to do the summer league this year, but it fell through so I came up with the idea for a summer camp instead. This was a new event (at least that I'm aware of). In regards to future new events; if I told you, I would have to force you to watch the entire 4Kids dub of One Piece in one sitting.

Q) Do you think Caelestis' voice is majestic?

Sephiroth: Caelestis is the god of TF2, TF2 division.

Disclaimer: Caelestis is not actually a god.

Q) What has been your favorite moment within TF2, and the division you have been a part of for so long?

Fullmetal: There's no one moment that has been my favorite with the division. In all honesty, I'm surprised that I'm still sane considering how long I've been with this family. In terms of the game, I'd have to say challenging Kazoo to a scout duel and beating her using only a bat. She raged so hard after that.

Q) Do insane people think they are sane? More importantly, Nutella, Peanut Butter, or Vegemite?

Sephiroth: Vegemite mate. #straya (editors translation "Australia")

Fullmetal: I've never had Vegemite, so I would have to put my money on Nutella. There's something about having a hazelnut spread, that's apparently good for you, taste like chocolate.

Q) Is there anything else you'd like to say to your fellow eGO members?

Sephiroth: You're all dabes! (editor's translation "the best")

Fullmetal: You people have been driving me crazy for three years, but I wouldn't change anything about any of you.

Q) What do you like to do outside of EdgeGamers?

Sephiroth: Nothing much, just more gaming (LoL, RIFT, More TF2) and of course I can't forget all the anime I watch.

Fullmetal: Work consumes a good chunk of my time, so I'm either at work or at my computer. I'm getting more and more into the world of figure collecting. There's a thread in the anime sub-forums titled Anime Paraphernalia that I update as I get new stuff for my room. Feel free to check it out or drop me some questions about what's in there or how to get started. I'd be more than happy to help.

I would like to thank Sephiroth and Fullmetal for taking the time out of their busy schedules to help rid us of the last vestiges of our sanity.

So first I select the right tool. For this I will need... ah there it is. I'm a little rusty, but it is all coming back. Now for the color. No, the predefined ones will not work. Here's the custom, a little more blue, there. That's what I want. Now from here to there. Oops. Thank heaven pixel pushers have an undo option. Dang fool phone. How's an artist supposed to get anything done?

As you go browsing through the forums, how often do you see a signature or an avatar that just makes you sigh in appreciation? EdgeGamers has quite a thriving little community of artists. You can see their work in the sigs and avatars, in the front page news, here in the newsletter. Even the awards were created by local talent. But it is not an exclusive club. Any member is welcome to get in on the fun. You can find our artists hanging out in Off-Topic and Entertainment / Art Work.

Drop in and have a look around. You can find stickies on Spray Tutorials and listings of Graphic Programs to use. You do not need to buy an expensive program. Some of the freeware is quite good.

Would you really like a fancy sig but just don't feel you have the talent? There is a Request Art sub-forum where artists are willing to help you out. On the wet side of the palette, if you feel you want to share your gifts, drop by and see what you can do.

EdgeGamers is always on the lookout for artists for new projects. The best way to get an invitation to one of our teams that require art is to post your work in the art forum for everyone to see.

The Personnel Service Center is pleased to announce that Ichor, the very artist who has created the lovely images in this months newsletter, has accepted the responsibilities of a PSC Advisor. Ichor hails from Kitchener, Ontario. That's about half way between Toronto and London, for those with a traveling yen. For those without a traveling yen it's still about halfway and you need to get a little more poetry in your soul. Ichor enjoys video games and most sports. He's been with EdgeGamers for over four years.


_MEGA, who resides on the East Coast of the USA, has added another to the long list of accomplishments, PSC trainer. Join up and _MEGA will show you the ropes.


The PSC would like you to check out the event calendar. Did you know that PSC event coordinators help out other divisions through joint sponsorship of events? If your division needs help with a recruitment drive or event you should check them out.


If you have earned your admin abilities and you consider yourself a people person, I encourage you to check out the PSC. These folks know everyone.

Before most of us go back to the place where you sit and learn stuff, a/k/a school, the CoD division had promotions to give out and an event to be won.

August promotions give us something to feel good about before school. So with that said, let's give a big congratulations to:

- SuperSabre for receiving his O,

- Re-Run and Gear for becoming Admin Trainers, and

- whoflungpooatwho and DarkRaven for becoming CoD’s newest Advisors. Thank you guys for stepping up helping to make CoD stronger.

The COD division held the infamous Top Gun event in August with the following cast of characters winning some pretty nifty prizes: egg, kobalt, and gecko23. The prizes were Far Cry 3, $20 in steam cash, and DoD:S. Congratulations guys, and have fun with those prizes.

If I may draw your attention to the front page post, eGO Resigns Call of Duty. In short, Call of Duty is no longer a division of EdgeGamers. DarkRaven and whoflungpooatwho have been asked to remain as Advisors for the game and when Call of Duty Ghosts comes out in November we may be supporting it. I highly recommend, if you have enjoyed Call of Duty and have an interest in Ghosts, that you participate in the game and in the Operation:X forum discussions when the game is released.

For this months Counter-Strike article, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the fabulous Ric and MACHINE GUN RUSH (MGR for short) as they explained to me what is happening in their community.

One of the biggest pieces of news to cross the boards is the recent promotion of Machine Gun Rush, a long-standing member of the Leadership team, to the rank of Division Leader. If you haven't already, go ahead and congratulate him on his position. I am sure he would appreciate it.

As I moved deeper into the conversation with these two fine gentlemen, they explained to me that their Comp Team won their first CEVO match with a score of 5-3. Not only that, they even managed to win their first play-off match in a close one, ending 16-12.

The team consists of kilroyy-, Mayhem_Death, Malenskii, RogueOps, h.winn, and j.winn. Leading the team are their captains, Snooch and Fart Vader. If you happen to see any of them in Ventrilo, do not hesitate to shout out a quick congratulations for their hard work and success.

Other important announcements:

- The CS Division is hosting quite a few contests, so check division discussion for more information.
- A possible Free 4 All Tournament will be scheduled for sometime later in the year.
- The new Bounty Hunter plug-in was added to the Jail server thanks to Christy.
- Slam was recently given the position of Admin Trainer.
- Dr.Beast and XxDoomxX have recently been promoted to Recruiting Coordinators.
- Fist? has been added to the Event Coordinator team as their newest EC.

Mm, something smells delicious. "What is it?" you may ask. It's the DoD section of this months newsletter.

DoD Leadership proudly presented the Summer Scrim Tourney.

The tourney followed competitive league rules, with teams composed of up to ten players, playing in a 6 v 6 format. Team captains chose and lead their teams, including holding strategy meetings and practices before every match. It began with six teams, quite an impressive turnout, with a rotating bracket of matches starting on July 15th and leading up to the finals on August 24th.

The tourney was designed for players of any level. Whether you were a DoD veteran or you are just starting up with the game, all were encouraged to sign up. The main goal of the tourney was to have fun and give everyone an opportunity to experience how matches with league rules are played. It was a rousing success and served to foster a friendly competitive atmosphere and a fair amount of team pride among our members.

DoD Leadership would love to take this opportunity to congratulate the winning team, the Donner Dingringers.

Attention, attention. The Realism Campaign is returning soon.

"What's realism", you may ask? What a great question. Allow Blue Stealth to explain:

"Realism is a type of DoD gameplay that focuses on teamwork, tactics, and realistic actions. As the name implies, realism relies on using weapons and the environment in a realistic manner. The use of cover, communication, and good leadership is required in order for a team to achieve victory. Weapon restrictions, a chain of command, and team cooperation separate realism from standard DoD game play. The DoD division of eGO hosts two variations of realism: Regular Realism and the Realism Campaign. The Realism Campaign runs for four to five weeks and requires players to play on one assigned team (Axis or Allies) for the duration. It also has an end goal with each team attempting to win territory and win WWII. Regular realism allows players to switch between teams during each battle and give players the opportunity to lead a team.

Within the campaign, the opposing armies will fight for strategically important territories, which have been assigned specific DoD:S maps. Each army Commander in Charge (or CINC) will be able to allocate points across the territories their armies control, along with any points gained throughout the campaign. This is not unlike the board game Risk. Territory points will be used in a bidding system that will determine the number of resources (troops) remaining at the end of a battle. Bidding points required to attack territories will vary according to strategic importance. At the end of the 4 week campaign, the army with the most territories (unless Germany has fallen) will be the victor."

You can experience Regular Realism most Saturday nights at 8:00 ET on the DoD Event Server, but keep a close eye on the DoD forums to catch forth-coming information on the next Campaign.

Can you smell what Q-tip is cooking? DoD's newest Advisor is setting up multiple inter-divisional events.

How is that different from all the other events? Jeez, you're asking great questions today. Allow me to explain:

Instead of the usual Road Trip setup, which placed DoD members on one team and the other division's members on the other (which led to the predictable outcome of the 'home' division winning easily), there will be a mixed faction of players from both divisions playing on both teams to make it as interesting as possible. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for further information on these new events.

The DOD comp team, in its second season, has formed a team roster and the TCN season 9 has begun.

Please support your comrades as they put in the hard work to compete at the highest level. Team Leader, Chuck Norris, and Team Captain, Boyle have provided the leadership and structure needed for the team to succeed.

Server changes, server changes, read all about them!

On the 24/7 Anzio server, each team's first flag has had it's capture time increased from 0.2 to 5 seconds. This change has resulted in fewer quick cap-outs. The extra strategy needed to win has resulted in fewer rage quits, which has in turn resulted in higher and higher rankings for the server since its implementation.

Oh boy, promotions time!

We would like to congratulate Megs A Tagger for her promotion to Divisional Leader, and both Spartacus_Legolas and Q-tip on their promotions to Advisor. Dodgy and Dangle have stepped into new roles as Event Coordinators. They both also join StaticDoom as the division's newest trio of Admin Trainers. Congratulations to everyone, you all deserve it.
