video card upgrade and cpu

Hello guys and gals.

I need to upgrade from my 5770 it was great 3 years ago but as bf4 and new games are released I'm falling behind. I wasnt to upgrade to Asus 2gb 7770 and was wondering if this a good upgrade worth a cheap $100-120 or should I shoot for better.

Which brings me to next point. I'm limited by CPU I have an old athlon ii x4 640. I would love to upgrade but I don't have am3+ only am3. I know the phenoms x6 r older but you think it's worth the upgrade as well or just build a new rig all together.

Yes. AM3 and AM3+ are basically the same sockets. Some of the FX series GPU's can run in his system but not all of them because they are not all AM3+/AM3 socket sizes.

If he is going to spend 150$ on a brand new graphics card, he might as well buy an R9 270.

As for price point - The 7770 is a much cheaper card because it is obviously slower then AMD's newer R9 series.

Tip: Dont use PC part picker as a website to look up graphics cards. We dont even know what motherboard he is running. If it was up to me, I suggest purchasing a new motherboard (depending on which one you currently have.).

I thought about buying one of those cards but i looked at the asus 7770 ghz edition because i found one for $110 which for a 2gb gdrr5 card isnt bad IMO. Yes I am in a bit of a budget (as alot of times we PC gamers are).

As far as FX CPUs i thought they were all am3+ which meant on my MOBO of am3 wouldnt work. Now is that a mistake on my behalf or is there truth to this. Any info is very welcome and i thank u
 
BTW i totally forgot how to even update my BIOS cant remember if thats through my manufactuers website or hitting F8 or F10 when i see manufacturer logo which would be dell for me.

My BIOS was updated in 2010 thats latest one I have from looking in system information
 
Think its time to upgrade MOBOs as am3+ boards arent as pricey. I have an old crappy Dell 0NWWY0. I was looking at these two as they are budget boards which fits the bill for me. Thoughts?

You're replacing a stock Dell motherboard? Is it inside a Dell case?

I believe your computer has a BTX form factor board (a form factor used mainly by OEMs like Dell and abandoned a while ago). Unless you want to do some serious case modding you will need to buy a new case too. Source

You are completely right that's something I've realized this morning. I been looking at different cases such as nxzt and rosewills. May just be that time to build my own :P
 
if ur building ur own pc and ur comfortable with ur monitor i have a build that is about 500-600$ and will run all modern games with decent graphics at 60fps of course it is understandable if you would like to go lower than that :D
