So over the summer I decided it was time to build my own rig, and had roughly five hundred dollars to spend on it and was just wondering what you guys think, as well as what you think I should upgrade first. Should I upgrade to an SSD first?

Not bad! I prefer Intel processors over AMD, especially since I only got their i7-4770k for $98 (special connections). You have a good setup! And an SSD isn't really necessary in a desktop PC, but they are definitely nice to have. Very reliable.

You have plenty of processing power, plenty of memory, a big enough hard drive.... So the first thing I'd upgrade is the graphics card if you ever want. Even though that card is good (I have the Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition. Got it from Newegg for $150 during a sale), it might not run some of the later games that are coming out. I'd go for a card with at least 2GB of video memory. If you upgrade the graphics card later on, upgrade the power supply as well. Snag something that's at least 700 Watts, in case you wanna add even more to your PC later on.

You chose some good memory! I have 2 4GB sticks of Ripjaws memory and one 8GB stick of Kingston HyperX Blue memory, and they're both fantastic. Gonna throw another 8GB module into my computer here very soon. Nobody has ever heard of 20GB of RAM! :D

Edit: You have the exact same case as I do.
 
Thanks man! Yea the ripjaws/case are pretty sweet. I love the blue led's in the fan as well! Really the only problem I encountered while setting it up was that the motherboard was a little small considering it was a micro, and a bit difficult to fit everything with out it getting completely cluttered. So far everything's working great and it has played every game I throw at it on ultra, I think the highest was probably planetside 2 and it maxed out with out any trouble.

Even though the motherboard is good, I've been thinking of getting a bigger one in case I want to add anything else because it's kinda cramped at the moment

I would get a mid ATX motherboard. I have a mid ATX board, and I've got all sorts of stuff in there, including a 750 Watt non-modular power supply that has 100,000 molex cables. Still lots of room in the case lmao.

I would recommend a bigger motherboard before anything else. I personally haven't tried the 7770 graphics card, but I know my 7870 is fantastic and runs everything maxed out as yours does!
 
500 bucks? Buy a new Gigabyte Main board and the new AMD Socket AM3+ black editions. They kick ass.
 
Yea, i spent roughly 500 on the rig, and I've been looking at a ton of bigger motherboards lately
 
For $500 I can imagine you can get the best of all three worlds: a new motherboard, processor and a decent-sized (120-248GB) SSD.

Maybe an ASRock 990FX Extreme3 / AMD FX8350 / Crucial M500 240GB combo. That'll run you a bit under five hundred.
 
Well I don't have 500 anymore, it was spent on the rig I currently have, I was just speaking as to what i should get next
